It doesn't help with level loading. Models were improperly drawing all of the triangles of the buildings whether the triangles were visible or not. This has already been fixed for 1.08. Theoretically, models were drawing 50% of each model that was not visible to the player.

you have reason krenzo, whem i'm testing the "fix" i have my msn and ares shutdown (more free ram for empires) and for this i see more faster loadings and i believed my "fix" reduces loading times...

i fix the first post about loading times but y get more fps with my fix :D

    regards

krenz, as you are the only one with 1.8, you can test both and see which is quicker :).

but are the same bugs an the bug is from materials no the models (but some lod's need one or 2 fixes, i see some models badly when y put model detail at medium or min) but my mini patch for 1.7 is ok ;)

if someone wants to test that...

    regards

Kinda, Something about the models having two faces, an inside and an outside. Right now empires drawing both even though you can only see outside face. His fix is suppose to fix it.

That reminds, me, if you only going to have all models in one detail level, perhaps it should be minimum detail, that will allow low end PC's to play Empires too. I know quiet a few people that wont play because they can't run maximum detail, and the models aren't designed to run in low detail levels, and like someone said in another thread, this leaves some models partly invisible.

The model detail slider is worthless. It's telling the mod to use the farther LOD models which are only designed for being seen from far away where you can't tell it's missing things like its interior.

Krenzo is talking about option: Model Detail : Low, Medium, High. It specifies how detailed model will look from specific distances.

In other words if you can choose Low/Medium model detail don't whine.

But there's other thing. Quite expensive (not for newest gfx cards) materials are used on big surfaces in Empires models (VF, barracks and so on). Cvars like mat_bloom, mat_specular, mat_bumpmap and so on aren't changed by Options. (not a big trouble for High end computer owner or someone who knows what those values do but noob with low-medium end computer can just say "OMG 10 fps with low details, fuck this mod")

i think the low fps is retaled with the map size (source engine sucks with long areas but this can chande with ep2 source engine version)

but is my opinion i don't know to muh about graphic engines...

It doesn't suck. Anyway use showbudget_texture1 to see what is taking most of the time.
