Does empires need a (used) official youtube channel?

It would have "How To's", vids with regular action filled gameplay, map flythroughs, common map tactics, a starter's guide, ....

For some of these vids we would require a good voice, but i think we have several here

For any PR push in the future we can point to this channel as well. Watching games on youtube is popular, and people are much more interested to test something out after having watched footage of it

 

Voice actors need to be Reznov, Sladof and Glowstick

EDIT: In seriousness though, that would be a good idea. All the empires scrims and pugs have been under different accounts, and it would make thing a lot simpler if we were to mainstream the videos. Plus it would give a semblance of professionalism to attract people to the game if we have training videos under an Empires account.

 

Are you kidding? Slade has like the most monotonous voice of anyone I've ever met. If anything, the mic adds pitch variations in his voice that don't exist IRL. He is capable of speaking at one pitch, and one pitch only.

 

The problem being that everyone who wants to put a video up, either needs the account name and password or a place online to store the video so the channel moderator can grab it from there and put it online himself.

We should probably take turns, and narrate on the stuff we are best at when it comes to empires.
Chances are somebody here can most likely explain how to do something better than another person.

Meh. We have the wiki which everyone can fuck with, and the only people who upload anything nowadays are jephir and lawliet. Who is seriously going to upload porn videos that you would trust with the account?

We have at-least a dozen of people who can record, but the only person I noticed who has any good editing skills is Reznov.

We should make a team for the video process, somebody records, somebody edits, then you need a director who basically plans out what should be covered.

Then the person doing the demonstration should add in their own strategies and titbits, basically what LevelCap does.

Jephir's latest PUG on duststorm in 720p is a pretty damn fine replacement. After watching that, it made me regret missing it.

 

I believe lordDz set up an account for empires and he was handing out the password or something. We should do something where an entire squad is narrating, and each member elaborates on why they do something. The squad voices could all be recorded through teamspeak. We could make like a small league out of this too, where players sign up their squads, then every video rotates through squads.

In fact, we could have like pub scrims, where two squads play on opposite teams in a pub match, and during the video the action switches between the perspective of the two squads. Then there can be a general commentator to sort of wrap things up.

That's exactly why i want to see videos of such games.

 

Getting good videos online is a different story, but it seems people would at least welcome an official channel.

On the topic of the videos themselves ... i have no idea who could make decent footage, and apart from 2 or 3 matches/week there isn't even any time where you'd want to record anything. Well made and edited montages like you need for trailers is probably not something we'll see happening quickly anyway.

At this time the best we would be able to realisticly get up there are video's like Jephirs comm match on duststorm. I've played empires since day 1 but i don't command, and while watching Jephir's video even i was surprised by how much the commander does. New players would understand quickly why they got voted out of the comm after seeing such a video and learn a lot from it.
Similar to this would be matches from a player's perspective in fps, preferrably from a good player. If by the end of the match you feel like it wasn't worth it, just delete it. If not this week, then perhaps next month you'll record a match of which you think "damn this would be perfect to put online"
