Custom Turrets

    I've been thinking about this for ages, and IMO turrets should be made like tanks, you open the screen up, and you can choose what to put in your turrets.

    Lvl 1 MG would only have 1 MG slot
    Lvl 2 MG would have a 2 part MG slot
    Lvl 3 MG would have 2 groups of 2 MG slots

    Lvl 1 ML would have 1 Ml slot
    Lvl 2 ML Would have 2ML Slots
    Lvl 3 ML would have 2 groups of 2 slots

    This way, you could change your turret to the situation.

    It's an interesting idea, but what would the Weapon Slot Options be?
    The MG slots could be the same MG slots tnaks have, but how would the Missiles work?

    no, nukes take up 3 slots, these would have two groups of two

    would that be for both the engineer and the commander? with the engineer would it be a case of once you had placed the base of the turrent you could change weapons on it at any time (maybe only if you had upgrade skill?)?

    Would the different guns cost anything?

    would it be a nice or nasty idea to have an option to have mg turrents attack tanks too? (selectable on the weapon selection page for that turrent) That would make a point of having plasma etc turrets (which would be over powered unless they did cost extra to have posh guns in). If you chose to have them shoot at tanks then infantry might find it easier to get past but they also might be over powered (a couple of lvl3 turrents with one plasma and one uranium could probably kill most tanks better than a rocket launcher). This might introduce a need for heat limits on turrents too which could bog things down but make for decent balance?

    automated pwnage. These would be good, but there would need to be a drawback. Higher cost, extra research, heat or ammo limits. Maybe you could only place one turret of a kind on the battlefield.

    It's a good idea, I just don't know how to make it work right now

    Overheating would work well.
    Or, the different options could only be used if an operator was present (i.e. a player firing the gun). Static gun emplacements would be the coolest damn thing ever.

    I assume that if different missiles were used then they wouldnt home as they do now? (unless you choose homing missiles) or would that make the turrents too weak?

    You should have a research section for turret weapons after you research lvl 2 turrets, and then more powerful weapons after you research lvl 3 turrets. RIght now the only things in those categorys are lvl 2 and lvl 3 upgrades.

    You should just be able to get a <-<-<-{FEW}->->-> (is few empasized enough?) different weapon types that are NOT overpowered.

    Any other guns than standard would take too much attention of commander. Level 3 turrets pwn everything from 500-1000m so there is no need to change anything.

    JESUS, think of a level 3 bio turret with plasma mg...

    ABSOLUTELY... PURE... OWNAGE.
