Since I don't understand, I am asking you guys. Why when I put custom maps in rotation do you say you don't like them? Why when I take them out do you then say you want them? It's the same way that people say empires needs more maps, and then refuse to download new ones or give any feedback when they are forcced to play them. Dozens of people every day play my maps, as they are all on the rotation on the popular server Napalms funhouse, but no matter how many times on server I ask "please leave feedback on empires forums if you have comments/suggestion" no one ever leaves comments. Dune_b2 has been in rotation for a week now, I have played it with a full server several times, and I have 2 posts: "looks impressive" and "I can see the seam in the skybox". Although most people that DO play tell me it looks nice and is fun to play when I ask for oppinions on the server, the majority of people won't vote for a map they've never heard of and will whine away until the admin loads money.
I think the main problem is: NEW MAPS SHOW HOW SUCKY YOU REALY ARE. Most people feel insecure if they have to play a new map, especialy as commander because they cant just do what everyone did bevor on the map and rely that it will win them the game. You have to think for yourself and where to go and what is good point to camp for the rushing enemy. Yeah and i agree most people say I love the map or i hate the map thats the whole fedback that you get from an average player.
We need something to bitch about... when stacking isn't evident we can bitch about not enough maps and when its a custom map we have the added bonus of calling it shit
To be fair I hate to say while there are a lot of talented mappers that will come along and make empires maps that look pretty nice but a lot of them end up playing like shit. ie midbridge
Ask people for feedback on the spot Works for me, people pick up on a lot, even if there's only 2 or 3 people playing.
What are you talking about? Midbridge has amazing gameplay. I'd say its one of the best Empires maps. I've had some pretty amazing matches on that map! The problem is that few servers host it anymore and even less people are willing to download it to give it a chance.
Main Complaint: FAST DL IS FUCKING SLOW. Add a map pack to your websites so I can DL it quickly and not just nod off and go to sleep when a dl starts.
IDK as much as I enjoy midbridge it is kinda of boring. Game start - infantry rush hill capture the 1000x ref while the rest gets mid and captures the 100000000x ref then NF's doom starts. but I still love the map
I played midbridge just recently, normal commander style, and realised that it was pretty much the same empires gameplay that i might get from loading up a flat emp_my_first_map.... I just felt that the map was so large that the teams sorta wandered about, no real front lines developed, and in the end most of the battles were like 3 v 3's, on a 30 player server. but it's REALLY fun for tank wars.
