Well poopy. I was playing the steam version of the game fine then when the map changed it downloaded the map then crashed. hey weird.. first time it crashed but there seem to be two dumps here. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11954784/hl2_4104_crash_2011_5_26T11_9_40C0.mdmp http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11954784/hl2_emp_purevirt__11_9_35__5_26_2011.mdmp
ohh I was wondering were the link to upload them went. well since this thread is now pointless, how about two questions? <-- first second -> Is the steams version of auto-update working? it wanted to download a whole new version of empires instead of downloading the parts it needed. its the fing same as downloading the exe of old.
If you want an answer, how about asking your question in English, with a sentence format that someone other than yourself can understand. That entire line is just a clusterfuck of "Has anyone ever been so far as to even" etc etc.
no I already had the steam version before I lost internet... just last night I got internet back and the damn thing made me re download the whole steam empires.
Apparently, someone has banned you, and it wasn't actually me. But considering it expires in 3 days, I'll reply anyway. Are you sure that version wasn't the Steam Test version that we distributed before the full release?
off topic: hmm... I think your already interesting avatar pic has sextupled in size? Also thank you for replying to my post given the recent event. On topic: Im fairly sure it wasn't the test version. Altho I did have that installed at one time... I removed it quite a long time ago. The version I had before I lost my internet was the first official one that was posted. Anyways... I think that is besides the point. It should have only downloaded the necessary files to make it the current official version, right? I can't believe it would need 2gigs to make it the same.
Well, there's 2 things to remember. Firstly, since going to steam, the Empires folder went from around 1gb, to about 6gb. Not sure how, or why, but it did. But having said that, you should still only have to download 1-2gb, and it uncompresses once it arrives. I think it's something to do with the GCF system. Having said that, 2gb seems unreasonable, but I can't tell you any more than just simply download it, and wait to see what happens the next/first time we patch it. And before you ask for an ETA, we don't know.
wait... yours is 6gb? damn... mine is only 381mb(mostly maps) then the gcfs are a total of 2.12gb. I have a gcf viewer and it tells me that the content gcf file stores 2.2gb internally and that 700mb of it is maps.
as far as I can remember, bla bla bla When you do a fresh steam-install of Empires, Empires reserves itself 2gig in the steam folder and tells you it is downloading 2gig. What it really happens: about 900mb are downloaded(can't remember how much exactly), shit gets unpacked (around 1,4gig afterwards), the "missing" 600mb are spare space for further updates. so that 2gig is not the amount you are really downloading, but the amount that gets reserved for gcf shit via steam. that's how it was once explained to me, but also my 3 steampires gcf's are 2,12gig in total now, the steampires custom folder is 2,79gig. (250mb screenshots)
