compile error

    A compile error thats keeping me from testing the lighting in my maps:
    it seems vrad just keeps cutting out whenever it gets to buildvisleafs
    i'm using fast vrad and no hdr

    it outputs the map file but when i load it there is no lighting built into it, and it's on fullbright

    I'm fairly sure at this point that it might have something to do with this, which was at the end of vbsp:

    however there is nothing useful i can gather from those coordinates



    the log that was in the mapsrc directory


    any ideas?

    Can i see the vmf?

    (did you click the check problems box to see if there were any problems?)

    it's probably your displacements, not models. Should help find the problem at least.

    Out of curiosity, did you ahve all the vis groups (both yours and the auto vis groups) selected when you compiled?

    there're some pretty sketchy displacements around the center of the map but nothing that should break vis

    rad isn't broken, it's the vis I think...

    running a compile real quick.


    *edit* I'm having some troubles with the compile atm. will tink with it.

    Again, the displacement or a something. There are tons of displacements in that bunker underground.

    hrm.

    you fucked something up good. I can't compile vis without it crashing. Even without displacements or without models. (might be a model as well.



    *edit* I mean, it's a model.

    Map compiles fine without that error once I remove entities except for the light_enviroment.

    also while you're looking at the vmf, comments on map layout?

    Compile it without displacements and see if that works?

    Next time add the materials too cause to me it looks allllllll white and there are the ERROR little shits that pop up and out at you and they give you a not so warm feeling. Just a tip, but I can see the layout, pretty good can't wait to play!

    Layout looks fine. Just select the snow and change it to a grass dirt blend, it'll give you a good idea of what's going on.

    Worried that the underground will suck away too many people, for one reason or another, and leave fewer people up top actually defending the com.

    Compiled with displacements and it's fine. Compile with entities it was borked. Should try using the portal view to see if you can see any anomolies around your entities, like heavy amounts of blue lines.

    well I sorted it out, apparently there was a problem with the sky I think, but I'm not sure since I redid a couple disps and deleted some models too.


    thats because you don't have the textures or the models :p
    I didnt include them because they arent really important for other people to have until I release the map

    Did you stick in the func_viscluster? and then put the skip on top and hint on bottom brush beneath it?

    I'm pretty sure that's from a prop that's bad. I know the small be crate is buggy like that.

    The prop won't cause any problems (apart from dirtying up your compile log), so you don't have to get rid of it.
    At least, that's what I recall... I don't remember any vrad problems from it way back in 200...4? (Half-Life 2 mapping)

    True it shouldn't cause a crash... But hey it's vrad for me it crashes so often i'm not suprised when it does crash. Hell that 1.5gb memory usage thing gets me every damn time.
