Nuff said just need to see if the devs agree with this. basically means the commander can queue research, which will open commanding up to more players since some commanders forget about tech.

I always kinda think it should be capped at 3 or so. And if it's in a queue could be stopped immediately on the death of the radar, compared to the way we have it now, where the last thing researched gets completed :p

You should be able to queue research for as much research as possible. Cruise control. 8)

There's a reason good RTS players don't ever use a queue: it spends resources that aren't actively doing anything.

You could put Physics -> Projectile -> Reflective -> Fission -> Fission Engine in a queue, but it'd take well over 1000 resources (almost 2000?), and each research item still completes at roughly the same time.

All this really does is deny resources to players to use for building tanks.

    Sorry, gotta pass.

More options would make commanding accessible to more players.

it would give the commander more ways to form a different strategy:
-to set up a near future research queue and then focus on boomtanking
-select research items one at a time, saving capital for other things like refs, raxes and tanks
-or spending a fucktonne of res on a long term strategy and then forget research for the rest of the game

    adding to this list:
-save tech tree queues for later use in other games.(such as a queue for the best stuff in physics or something.)
-If the commander leaves/disconnects it continues his/her queue or an AI chooses research queues that are most commonly picked for the faction/relate to the tech that the late commander already has.

It doesn't necessarily need to cost full res at once, it could price the res as it goes along AND if it does not have enough res it waits for res to come to an acceptable height.

You're assuming it takes the resources for every individual item at once. Why would this be the case? There are RTS games, like Homeworld2, that spend resources on research as it progresses.

Implimenting this and changing research cost to a rate based system instead of the current upfront cost would make research a lot less irritating.

Research costing Res/second instead of X res?

sounds like fun! Could also let research continue even if you don't have enough res to pay for it all at once.

all this would only equalize any gap between good an bad commanders. while good comms can go boomtank, drop stuff AND keep research going, a not so good one probably can only handly one or two of this features ...

btw, because this isnt so clear, this is meant as contra argument ;)

what encourages guys to play commander then? you could aswell replace them with a fully automated system then ...

if its no challenge at all, and you cant be good at it - at least not to a level where you make a difference - why would anyone want to play it? except for noobs who dont have a clue how it plays out?

    srsly

Pay-as-you-go, queues, give cost in terms of time to tech and res/sec.

Because if commanding can be replaced with an automated system then it should be. In my view commanding should be about stratagical and tactical ability rathing than interace using ability. The main difficulty when commanding should be comming from the enemy team and their commander rather than the interface. Now it will require a large redesign of several comanding elements to get to that point but making the interface easier to use allows the commander to focus on more important things (such as leading his team) and creates space to add new features.

How much times do you complain for a ref when it never comes down? It is quite common, mostly because the commander is being sidetracked by something. If he is not giving targets he is researching, and new commanders pouring over every single option that comes up waste time.
