This is a really old suggestion of mine but if empty has some spare time :3 he could color code the rockets trails so you see which rocket (especially uml / standard) the enemy has.

    Need code support.

You can tell different MLs apart from their particle, in steampires the MLs look like:

    Bio:
    Green Cloud
    ML:
    Small Explosion, white smoke
    Salvo:
    Petite Explosion
    UML:
    Medium Explosion, Shockwave

Guided/Homing Variants are the same as their corresponding missile.

In svnpires or if you're using my updated particles:

    ML
    Same as steampires
    UML
    Strider/Ar2 impact like effect.
    Salvo
    Tiny strider impact effect.

The mls also have muzzleflashes from memory.

I use low quality particles so I support this.
And it would make this into a rainbow fight.

SVNpires already makes we want to trow seismics in the air and scream "HAPPY NEW YEAR!" :|ove:

Both me and empty made some rocket trail effects, all that is required is code support.

And also lots of ensuing complaints because the FPS dropped like a brick.

Actually if you use render ropes it's a lot cheaper than the current effect which spams 1000+ particles per rocket.

I made a really sick-ass jetpack effect for another mod, it used some fire/smoke but primarily a glowing render rope and it looked sweeeeeet.

Mm, you could save sprites yes, but simply using a particle system effect seems to kill FPS for some people.

No, that's just people being whiny because they assume if something looks better it HAS TO DRAIN MORE FPS.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if using system effects is more expensive than hardcoded effects because you have to actually load and run the whole system framework for any effect.

A hardcoded effect doesn't need the extra framework.

I doubt it's that huge of an impact, besides, that's cpu and memory usage, not gpu.

    *cough, cough*
Not trying to flame or anything, BUT
when I run empires it uses 92% of my first CPU core and never ever more than 56 % of my GPU. Graphics RAM is most of the time stuck at ~ 800mb for empires.

Please try using a shitload of hardcoded effects that can be created right in the graphics carp if that is possible in Source. Even if just for testing.

EDIT: forcing multicore gives me a +40% in fps until the well known crash, is that crash still related to shitty vehicle code not getting along with it?

Actually, w00kie has a point there. Out of my last 3 GPUs, even with the laggiest particles Empty did, they were never even close to full capacity, but my CPU is nearly constantly using a full core. I don't think this is anything to do with Empty's particles, but what I'm saying is, the problem with FPS lies with CPU, not GPU, wherever it's coming from.

Yeah, people have been saying it for ages but then, people also still blame Empty's particles, so what do you do eh?

Empty does do alot of crying... he is very self contentious about what people say about his particles... Remember that time he went a way for a long time?

Yup. Was prolly for the best because I was on the edge of banning someone purely because I was pissed.

I don't like using my mod powers based on my emotions.

    You can't teach maturity.
    No, that's a bad phrase, I wouldn't say I'm mature.

You can't teach someone to see their own flaws. They have to do that themselves.
