The chemistry research tree is the only tree, where I still have to look at my print out. And when you check the first level researches, then you will see that 3 of them are unnecessary because they do nothing and you can only research one thing after. So why not remove them? Cost and time would be added so that there is no change at balance: The same could now also be done for Mechanical Old: Mechanical->Advanced Machining->Composite Armor New: Mechanical->Composite Armor Pro - Research will be easier to learn - Commanders will less often forget to start next research Con - Cost are not splitted into two parts
2 things: 1.When was the last time you player commander? Absorbant doesn't need a pre-requirement except for chemistry. 2. The reason there are two research items for one certain item is not because the devs think researching is fun, but because having one big item would hurt the tank flow. You would have to save up res to research, instead of being able to research all the time but having tanks rolling out at the same time.
I'm all for cleaning up the trees, though i'd hope there is a more drastic change in the future for tech.
