Engineers can use their repair kit to heal other players. Teamwork, the role of healer is often fun to play. Get a dropship and some players to drop reinforcements, from parachutes. Get a dropship, and have it land a jeep. All of these suggestions mess with roles that should be reserved to the players. -------- In responce to buttery's NS comments: In NS there is no engineer that can heal and distribute ammo.
Well what about a camera-plus-radar style scan which shows all enemies in a certain area for a while? It sucks to be commanding but neither you nor your teammates can see the arty that is shelling your team. A scan would allow grenadiers to return fire. The same applies to when a point is under heavy attack. Unless there's a good scout down (ie, one with Enhanced Senses) there they are going to get taken by surprise. Don't you the fuck dare say that's a scout's role because he can spot about four things at a time, not an entire offensive. Plus, in my experience I have only ever ONCE managed to sneak past anyone at all while using hide. God knows how he didn't see THE EYES, though.
Now that I think about it, the only reason NS has crates of ammo and health dropped by the comm is because the players cant do that. Because We in empires CAN, there's no reason to do so. Now, if you wanna drop a temporary armor buff, or some sort of new fangled weapon, that's something else. Still, I'd rather not mess around with superweapons. Scan would make some sense, OR you could just give the scout an upgrade like Dystopia-- in that game, with one click, a unit "tags" nearby enemy units like a sensor and marks them with a diamond. A scout could have three or four "tags" of ammo. Say, that's a good idea!
Exactly. The players should control the actual action, the commander should be the one directing that action. I made a post in the scout's information warfare thread that relates to the scan idea. I still think giving that power to the comm would be a bad idea, because, again, direct action should be reserved to the players.
My friends, Im not talking about super weapons, there is no room in Empires for super weapons. Im talking about minor powers that build up over time. Drop some mines here, wait 5 mins till you can again, artillery strike, wait 10 mins before you can again. No magical nukes or death rays.
I think he said C&C generals (which is singleplayer) but isn't there a commander power in C&C Renegade (the multiplayer game with the lousy netcode) And I for one is for commander powers but not Tiberian sun style, to overpowered, just something small and simple, enough to be usefull edited because of brain malfunction
