I was thinking why not put more information in the ammocounter. Brenodi soldiers are wired so it would fit imo. I know that the monitor on the guns needs to be bigger to be usefull and I dont think its a problem that you cant see your health while holding a grenade .
add in a heartbeat counter (heart symbol "beating" up and down) when you use stamina too quickly or get shot also what about putting the entire (so far as possible) HUD into those weapon displays and removing the current ones? for NF you can have those pre-etched displays you have on old hand held video games on a "watch" like display so it does not have to be connected to the gun (and thus look "older" or "cheaper") example:
I like the heart beat idea. I think the whole hud would make it to cluttered. @ NF display idea Oh and another idea would be to make put the rest of the hud into a part of the helmet (model) that stands out. Like theirs another display.
I don't really see the point, the displays look pretty ugly as it is, I don't think cramming more things on there will improve that any. Adding the hud onto a helmet would likely cause performance issues and I don't see what it would add, other than making the hud even uglier and harder to read.
some colour tests for a NF display? ignore the "squadhere squadhere stuff, it was supposed to be hidden (it are notes) edit, this is the style i was trying to get, early LCD applications
Well I love the ammo counter and helmet hud idea. But I think its royally fucked because chris complained about it,like so many other things.
i wonder why hud on helmet would add preformance issues? you just move the hud in a more animated way on a small model always displayed in first person
Because having to translate an animated display in three dimensions is considerably harder than sticking it in the corner of the screen. It's the difference between 2d and 3d graphics. In order to make a helmet look good it needs high resolution textures and modelling.
what about the new hud that they have in the dev blog, isnt that due to be released sometime soon*? *soon in empires time that is.
The reason I post that is, well look at sandbags trailer how awesome empires looks if you remove the hud.
That's because the HUD is fugly and huge and opaque and blue. It just needs trimming down, the bars don't need to be so huge and be in giant frames, you could run them along the borders of the screen or put them in corners, and make the UI semitransparent and neutral coloured. Replacing the horrible blue boxes in the corners of your vision with bits of helmet is still going to make the hud feel cramped, the only game I can imagine that works well with cockpits is X3 and that's because you're in space and the combat has auto aims and you don't really need to see anything, in fact you usually can't see anything except the red squares over the two pixel large enemy fighters and the red cross which tells you where to aim for the aimbot to activate, but even in games with aircraft the cockpits usually get in the way, and the only things to see are the ground, the sky, and the enemy plane, so I can only imagine how putting infantry in head-cockpits will work in an FPS.
completely agree Nesquikos VGUI is so much better then the original one and it makes commanding easier as well
