Um, first off, why would BE be fighting BE? Lol. I can see it now: BE General, "PRIVATE! GET ME A SANDWICH!" BE Private, "Hellz no. Get yo' own sandwich" BE General, "THIS MEANS WAR!!!!11" And there's only 2 sides in Empires... don't really see how that could happen either...
Could be confusing telling the units appart... could end up in a gain staring contest with everyone pointing the gun at eachother
third side would be nice Or when campaigns are implemented, a couple scenarios of in-fighting might be interesting. Like the first few Nod missions from Tiberian sun
Choost your Team: 1. Northern Faction 2. Brenodi Empire 3. Brenodi Faction (or Northern Brenodi) 4. Auto Assign 5. Spectate.
It'd prolly be best to make the maps seperate. Not enough players for a three way and maps wouldn't support it that well =P
3 player support would be fine...but unfortunately we find that the Source engine is rather incomplete (in many ways) and does not offer large enough map sizes to do that, nor have up to a decent 64 player count. :< If you made a map using as big as it can get from a top view, it's quite small actually, and would only be good for 2 teams. If you extended it to 3 teams, a map that takes the whole grid would be small.
Isn't map scaling going to be implemented at some point, though? That would be an easy fix to the size limitations.
lol Definately but a third side would be nice. Or like Dee said atleast in the campaign. Maybe like a mission where some BE are tired of the way things are run and sabotage a base and then join NF. Or maybe a top BE scientist thinks nano-tech and genetics can be mixed and they try to assasinate him, he breaks off and has mad money and becomes a large supporter of NF? Just some ideas.
Did someone say "large enough map sizes"? I'm adding scaling now. At normal scale you can fly across a map in about 6 seconds. With 8x scale, it takes you, well, 6*8=48 seconds, almost a minute.
So is that server side? Or map creators choose the scale? Could be funny... Engineer: "ZOMG THAT TREE REACHES THE MOON!!!"
Ha. Map scaling. I could imagine finding little holes in the now giant walls in the South East base on duststorm...or does it not work like that? (Not exactly uber pro at hammer)
Well, if emp_duststorm were to be scaled, the geometry would have to be scaled in comparison (otherwise, it would look like a low-detail rats map). This means that you would see no difference except a huge increase in space. The way map scaling works is that whereas one unit in the editor equals one inch in the game normally, one unit in the editor equals (in this case) eight inches in game. It increases the amount of space available while decreasing the amount of detail possible (since you can no longer create details under the size of eight inches in any dimension without creating a custom model of the appropriate dimensions). Keep in mind that this is a very simplified explanation. Technically, I think it works by actually decreasing the size of the player and all the objects, but I'm not completely sure about that, either.
