basically, i dont know if this is even possible, but if it is, i think it would solve some if not most of the frustration for commanders and isolated groups of people needing backup basically, record the general movement of people and compose something like this (the arrows count) from it basically, if a group of your team repeatedly run over the same stretch of land over and over, an arrow is drawn, the more people run the same direction, the thicker the arrow becomes if a peice of land suddenly does not get any people there any more, the arrow fades or becomes thinner again this could enable a quick view of front lines and where one team would need support the enemy arrows are visible like this as well, as long as someone from your team can see the people who created the arrow this would all be viewable on the minimap, or on the big map pulled up by "M"
So if everyone spawns in a totaly useless rax and attacks the enemy base they cant take it would give it a large arrow that says "SPAWN THEIR IM A BIG ARROW THAT POINTS AT THIS DIRECTION" so people dont consider to spawn anywhere else where it is more needed?
it would give everyone a bit more of an idea where people spawn and where your team is stationed people can thus easily decide where they are needed also, if you can see the enemy arrow conflicting yours, people coudl see a bigass arrow pointing to a very thin enemy arrow, and a thin friendly arrow pointing to a very thick enemy arrow so people would know that the location needs support
I think it's a good idea too. This could be implemented in the minimap but with a few changes. For one, instead of the arrow you could have a trail behind every player in the minimap. It would be similar to the mouse trail in Windows but much less ugly. This trail would be very transparent by itself, almost to the point of being invisible, and fades in a few second. Most importantly, the trails must overlap each other to darken the lines as more players take the same path. To allow multiple players running side-by-side to form a big visible line in the minimap the trail would also need to be wider than the player's dot. In addition to allowing your teammates to see where the rest are going, you can also easily tell that your team is screwed when a giant opaque blob is blanking out your main.
i just wonder if its worth the work ... even painting on the minimap yourself probably is quite some task for our coders - having it painted by some yet to decide algorithm that gives you valueable strategic information (take the scout vs rofle example from before) will be way more complex :\
yes blizzerd thats what i meant ... but answer me another question, what was the reason why noone gave a fuck about implementing AI?
I think the title is even an oxymoron. You can't automate strategic awareness. All of the pretty pictures in the world aren't going to make people who can't or don't want to participate in the strategic metagame change their aptitude or attitude. This suggestion adds nothing of value except for minimap clutter (and the minimap is already cluttered). A much higher priority in any case should be to simply get the minimap to display what it's supposed to display instead of turrets where the barracks is and a barracks where the VF is and a VF where the refinery is.
