I my experience, people prefer to play as BE. Even if this preference is only 55% to 45%, it still results in unbalanced teams. I can understand the desire to join a team a friend is on or a team that is losing, I wonder how often people join a team for these reasons. In other words, I don't think the benefits of manual team selection outweigh the cost of stacked teams. I propose a very simple solution: remove manual team selection, leaving only auto-assign and spectator. The actual impact of such a change would probably be minimal...at least when I asked last night, most everyone said they auto-assign anyway. What are some cons to removing manual team selection?
It might be wiser just to add a serverside variable for balancing. Somthing in terms of if there's more than certain number of players more on one team it changes someone(or more people until the teams are even) randomly from the team with more players to the team with less people in it. The primary reason for this imbalance is that BE wepons have more kick in them than NF weapons. That's the reason why people prefer playing BE. I usually just pick one team and switch between rounds.
well it could always be a cvar that you can switch on. For some servers that like it. But Im really against this, choosing should always remain like every game out there. The auto assign just works wrong atm, it auto assigns you to the team with the least tickets, at the start usually the team with the most people because the first respawn also costs a ticket
Well the major problem I think with forcing an auto assign for the reasons given is a terrible solution. You're basically saying instead of balancing/fixing the sides so people WANT to play them you're saying, force them. But there definately needs to be an autobalance cvar like in all the other HL2 mods, although I thought there already was. Quick Note: Auto-balance shouldn't work like traditional games as it sucks to be the one causing you're team to win then get stuck on the other team. Comms definately should'nt get switched and it auto-balance always runs then the lowest scoring person(s) should. Also maybe auto balance should run for the first 5mins of any game or until a certain given time, perhaps based on the map. EX: Escort and District should always have auto-balance, Money for probably first 15mins, and all others first 5mins. And since people could just switch later maybe make it so you can NEVER go to a team with more people, but make it a cvar so in clan matches it can be simple turned off.
They should make a clan mode like DoD 1.3. Pub mode having auto assign only. Sniper, the first bit doesn't even make sense. Teams should always be balanced player-wise.
haha I mean like, people join BE cuz they are better than NF. If the weapons were balanced and what not maybe people would like to play NF for once. And in the case of Escort if the map was fixed.
the way auto assign works in .05 is it puts ppl on the team with least ppl, using least tickets as a tie breaker. all auto asign needs is to not let ppl manually change to unbalanced teams. it curently blocks you froim joining(odd looking word) unbalanced teams, but does nothing to prevent you you going to spectate frst, or changing when you start to lose.
i think tickets shoud not be calculated in, a few guys changing over coud make a team with 5 tickets remaining lose of a team with 4 tickets remaining* i know this is late game but you know...
I prefer an intelligent team balancing mechanism about auto-assign. Auto-Assign leaves no room for personal preference.. being it wanting to play alongside a friend or really wanting to be NF .. whatever. Intelligent Team-Balancing on the other hand switches people to the other team if either the team are unbalanced in numbers .. lets say 8 vs 11 AND when the teams are unbalanced stat wise.. let's say 10vs10 with one team -1 points-noobs only. It would switch good players to the noob team and noobs to the good one until the stats do atleast roughly match. It would always take numbers and stats into account. Switching teams would be allowed except it would heavily unbalance the teams. Of course this would need far more tweaking than making it auto-assign only but the result will be far more satisfying. And yes, of course, there should be a cvar to deactivate it
i dont think auto changing ppl would be a good idea in this mod. it works in dystopia because you dont really get attached to a team, but in empires you spend 30-40 mins fighting back from the brink of destruction and have to switch because some one on the other team doesnt want a loss on his (non-recorded) record
I play on a LAN with my roomate. Auto asign sucks for us since we play as a team. We sabotage teams by joining opposing forces. keep these things in mind.

That's just about the WORST thing you can say to prevent Auto-assign! GEEZ! P.S - I dont want auto-assign. As I said before, Just balance the teams until people will happily choose auto-assign and people playing with friends can join the same team. i have many friends with this mod. are you telling us we can't choose whether to play together? we may just go off and play CS, worse but atleast we can have fun together as a squad.
bah auto team should be chosen by the server administrator i say and yeah if the damn game would be balanced and with less abuse posibility *grenade abusing as one of them* would allredy improve the game a lots ALSO more weapon choice maybe? and more map too
