You are trucking around in your brand new heavy, empty 20 rail shells that bring the enemy tank to the brink of destruction, you are also blinking red... one more shoot... and bam you are overheated.

Then some noob comes out of nowhere, shoots randomly in the air a couple of bullets and one of them gets to hit your target destroying it.

Freackin noob feels like Miller in saving private Ryan when a tank is killed by his gun...

Anyway, the point is: assist points anyone? any plans? if so when?

    Cool :)

How are the assist points calculated? cumulative damage over a target?, but i guess you dont want to store the cumulative damage forever so it has to expire at some point...

Well the naive approach would be, add a vector that contains the player id and damage amount of every player to every player, building and tank.

Then give 1 point to the one who made the kill and the one who did most of the damage.

The table would have to be cleared on every respawn, and every time the entity was fully healed.

Doing all of that is actually rather trivial. I guess it is all together a lot less then 100 lines to change. But it requires a bit of digging to find the correct places for the changes.

But as always the manpower is limited. Anyone who knows a bit coding could do this.

    Sounds good.

Maybe you can also use this to give grenadiers 1 point for every 500 damage they have done to the enemy vehicles.

If assist points get in it would be better to remove the kill counter and replace it with a damage dealt counter

Or you could ignore the right way to calculate assist points and go for 1 point earned for every 100 damage.

Damage dealt is too trivial to give any real information. You could have done a million damage to a cv that was constantly repaired, but it having no benefitial effect (or atleast not one that has direct benefit, as in, the effect of one noob engineer repairing the cv constantly).

Kills is for kill whores, thats why its there, people love their score.
Damage says very little, its not much of a replacement as it heavily relies on what you're doing. So a heavy tank nub with nuke might do the most damage, but he didn't carry the game.

In dystopia (if I remember correct) a heavy gives you 3 killpoints as light a med 2 and a light 1 so its related to how hard it is to real kills not to the kill itself. Maybee such a system might work for tanks in empires too.

im kool with this idea but, instead of storing all the names till death have the system time out the dmg dealt to that entity that so and so did after say, 1 minute or so. This would lower system resource needs of storing all that info.

    what's the point?
skill isn't measured in points anyways, so points are useless after 40.

This would kill Escort where NF relies on all the skills at the end of the match to hold BE.

people like escort because it makes them feel good about themselves and makes them think themselves to be pro when they kill a heavy tank with a couple of sticky bombs.
