Application error at startup

I've just downloaded the 1.08 for the first time this morning and installed as a second game (not to overwrite 1.07) and everytime i try to launch it, i get this error message and Empires crashes back to desktop


running on windows XP SP2
with an AMD 2400+
a Radeon X1600pro
1.5gig ram

 

Did you download rc7, then apply the rc9 patch?

I had RC8 then used the patch... i didn't find RC7... where is it?
Edit: nevermind... found that...
But it was not specified that you needed the RC7 before installing RC8....
so i just found out RC9 while downloading RC8.. saw that you needed only RC8 OR RC7... and told myself i was ok since i just downloaded RC8...

oh well.. thanks anyway

Edit2: Holy moly! 700mb! that's big... 1.07 was so much smaller.. well i guess all the new stuff takes space...
