Just wondering. If so, (if you upgraded from 32bit W7/Vista or whatever) what's the performance like? Does it crash more or less? How would Empires run on 64bit W7?
Been running it for ages, since I fixed my ram haven't had any bsods, runs fine, but then so did vista x64. I generally don't have any problems with windows.
I have win 7 64bit, works fine. Sometimes gets fucked up when rapidly switching from fullscreen back to windows. Easily fixed though I can has a better processor?
got the same here runs very stable got it for a year or more and i got only one crash as far as i remember 64bit is awesome performance with 4gb ram especially when you are working with more demanding programs then games *cough* 3DS max *cough*
There are probably going to be no differences. Expect you get to use this bro's theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1MtA5vtVVo
http://signature.i906.com.my It's dynamic and awesome. Quick learning. Takes time to make it right though. Files n stuff Contains some files you can use. The rest is up to you. On-topic: I was thinking about getting 64bit if I ever get around getting a new computer.
Been running it since long before it was released, and never had a BSOD. As for upgrading, you can't do so - at least not an upgrade install, afaik. You can upgrade vist 64 -> W7 64, and Vista 32 -> W7 32...but Vista 32 -> W7 64 isn't supported. You can certainly flatten the system and do a clean install, but that's it. As for perf, you won't see much of one. But I'll say this: the template for whether you want 64 bit or 32bit is quite simply: do you have more than 3.5 GB of RAM. If less than 3.5, 32bit, if 3.5 or more 64bit. A 64 bit OS means all memory addresses are 64bit addresses, which, as you can guess...use 64 bits to be stored. So, in effect, the OS and any 64bit apps will start to use more memory than if they were storing 32bit memory addresses. So it's really just pointless and perhaps even slightly detrimental to go to 64bit unless you have enough memory to warrant it (or will in the near future be getting enough memory to warrant it.)
Running win 7 x64. No problems, is lovely. 'Upgraded'* straight from XP 32 bit. Only problem I have is when trying to play 2142, I have to set compatibility to XP, and then use a CD crack, or else it won't launch/get to menu; And then make sure I've turned off Areo. *By upgraded, I mean reformated + installed, not the direct upgrade option. Also not sarcastic.
Vista vs 7: No performance Increases/Decreases (neglible differences) 7 boots and shutdowns faster 7 has some improved built in tools (paint, etc) 7 has less annoying UAC 7 has some tools missing from vista (can be downloaded from MS website though), for example the windows kalendar 7 has a nicer/faster taskbar Apart from that 7 is basically Vista. I've seen wierd BSODs and issues on 7 (64x), not on vista (32x/64x) though. You may or may not be affected, who knows... otherwise i think it's safe to get 7.
Some versions of 7 lack the quicklaunch (one of my laptops absolutely has no option to enable it - 64x pro). Others don't (the other laptop has it - 32x home). Weird.
