Firstly, I'm assuming tracked vehicles will be able to climb very steep hills, like they should IMO, in the next or future versions. The advanced APC would either be in the Upgraded Chassis research branch, or the Advanced Chassis research branch. It'd be slightly faster (also turning speed), have increased resistance against splash-damage, and have a very low profile. I'm thinking something like this, except that the tank turret would be an MG turret instead: The advanced APC would allow for 10 people to enter, and there could be one or two other mounted machineguns, which gunners (passengers) could man. What would make the thing really worth getting would be it's ability to traverse waters, in the same way as the HL2 gunboat. I'm asking for this because I feel APCs are sometimes really clumsy, and it shows in long-lasting games. Engines and armor help, but I think we need a whole new vehicle; tracked vehicles really are more manouverable. Plus, the water traversing ability could contribute to the gameplay and add some interesting potential strategies that could be utilized in new maps.
Btw. I think there should be space inside, and passengers would see each other sitting in there, like in BF1942. You could switch to 3rd person to see what's going on outside. That should be done with the basic APC too.
a backdoor that can be opened or shut by the passengers, and when it's open bullets can get in. cool. but for all this to be super amazing, we want halo 2 type climbing in vehicle animations. in that game, you got a different animation depending on which side of the vehicle you tried to get in it from
This is something I saw on Future Weapons on Discovery Channel. It's a APC with an extra armored plate on the front that has hinges on the bottom. When it goes into the water the operator operates hydraulics which push the hinged plate out front so thats its like the front of a boat. It has a propeller in the back for going through the water. The idea behind it is a small vehicle that can be used to insert Navy Seals from far enough away from land that the ship deploying it isn't seen. It has good speed in water and on land, and doesn't need to stop in order to drive on land, just needs to slow down to ensure traction.its capable of high speeds on land and in the water, however I forget the numbers.
Amphibious landing craft can't be that hard to code, can they? I'd love to see this some time after aircraft, but before a full-on navy.
I thought about suggesting hovercraft at one point, actually. Dunno if I actually did or not. I think it'd be cool, if only to allow for watery maps.
Why should it be allowed only for watery maps? Btw. I meant an amphibious vehicle, not a hovercraft: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Amphibious_vehicles
I don't know the exact definition of amphibious, but hovercrafts hover OVER the water instead of moving IN the water, right? Traversing should be a bit slower so the APC doesn't become a patrol boat, which would be logical for vehicles that do it with propellers.
It would be cool to have some sort of D-Day map. In fact, what about that map emp_empcannon, this would be perfect for that!
great idea, that would be perfect :D there should be some "NF" craft just offshore, with an APC spawner in it.
