right, i was just wondering what kinda AA was planned for when aircraft (eventually) get released? and what people think might be good additions for this area of combat by the way i realise ive spelt AA wrong i just dont know how to edit/delete threads and cant really be arsed doing either... either
The beauty of that post took my breath away. The problem with automated AA is that it could be really deadly, the problem with human controlled AA is that it is really boring. The middle ground could be weak auto turrets and more powerful human ones. I really don't know what to think about this topic though.
AA chasis and aa turrets. I'd rather not have turrets be too effective and I'd rather planes didn't dominate ground pounders
Yes, I wish for planes to be more for transportation, and maybe a tank that is anti-infantry/AA, so it can have more then just air plane duty. In most RTS's the anti-air unit is also anti infantry. Seeing as how it has lots of machine guns on it most of the time (the Quad Cannon Truck from C&C: Generals :D) Maybe for BE it should be a Flak truck? That would stick to the theme more... with a Tri-MG truck for NF? (3 MG's because we already have 2 on the turrets, and 4 is too many )
You know, for a second or two, I was about to say: "Hello, my name is Mr. Bojangles, and I am an Empires addict."
hey bojangles i think your EAA organisation belongs in the general chat area :p which army uses that AA tank on BF2 i cant remember, is it the commies? i cant use it cos you cant even tell where your going.... i think there should be various types of AA (for tanks and turrets) to keep pilots on their toes and give air combat are more tactical feel i.e. flak - for slow moving well armoured aircraft chaingun - for faster lighter air support aircraft missles - easy to dodge but powerful god knows how youd program ground to air missles and flak as not to lag the game 5 minutes behind whats actually happening but thats not my area of expertise
It's probably going to be something like that if we can draw from our Emp42 experience. Basicly we had a tank with dual flak guns and two dumbfire missile pods. It was my favorite tank and a lot of fun to shoot aircraft down with it (took some skill and timing to hit with the dumbfire missiles). Also, the assault class was decent at shooting down aircraft with it's chaingun.
there was a chaingun?! man i wish i got here earlier i forgot about the whole bf1942 engine thing, what kinda role did the aircraft play, were they purely for combat purposes?
definatly need an AA turret and definatly need an AA vehicle maybe implement an AA infantry weapon (e.g stinger)
I think there should be automatic AA turret, on a slow reload timer, paired with a manual AA turret, with a faster reload, would be cool. AA missles should be set on laser sights though like they are currently. The rotation should be 360*x90* but should have a slow rotation speed so one AA turret cant take on too many aircraft at once. In defense "flares" should be introduced in the same release that would interfear with a missle within a certain range of the aircraft but if fired too early or too late would do nothing. Another idea, though I dont know if it would fit into the time setting of the game, would be to have mines in the air equivalent to the mines in the sea. On the subject of air, I think any type of bomber should be forced to refuel after a certain period of time so they cant just circle around and drop bombs.
