Ive been a member of the Empires community for a nearly a year and I have to admit that this mod is like no other mod is. It is one of the most ambitious mods I have played with a huge attention to detail. And as we all know it came third on the MODDB 2007 awards which is one hell of an achivement. And with Aircraft comming up and even later on ships this game is going to get to be bigger than any other mod could be. I cant imagne Empires haveing aircraft (blimpz:p) or EVEN SHIPS. Even though there is all of these additions to the mod. What else could hold the future for this mod and how much more could this game be. I have heard people say that this mod will die out. Or the dev team will just give up but personaly I see this mod going a further than any body expected and I wish the dev team the best of luck makeing this mod even more enjoyable than it already is
I cant believe this mod isn't more popular. Empires at least as much variety in weapons and vehicles and strategy as Halo or any other game. Even people that don't like RTS stuff can just ignore it and go kill the enemy. There just need to be fewer ways for new people to screw over their team. I think thats what chases away new people, getting yelled at for driving away with a tank they they found or hopping in the comm vehicle or running the APC off a bridge.
I think one of the biggest problems is the lack of decent comms and learning to comm. Most people don't want to comm because they don't know what to do as a comm.
and because newbs get flamed to death by their team when they try comm. most newbs play it like deathmatch > loose > quit because its a shitty game. and the unfriendly and impatient treatment of newbs doesnt help either.
I don't like to comm because its more fun and I feel more useful out in the field. Ironically, the commanders job is more about following orders than giving them. If you have a competent team you just need to supply them with what they need.
You sir are WRONG. A great commander is going to combat the other commanders work and tells the people what they need to do. It helps in some point that you don't need to give as many obvious orders like, "Build this barracks." However Commanders still tell what to do.
i have trouble getting people to build DU APCs on cyclopean. "Build some DU APC's and rape their unguarded com vehicle..." "We almost have north!" "we have 3k res,, build 10~30 DU APCS and rape their come vehicle -_-'' " I get that kind thing a lot.
Lack of polish, lack of intuitiveness, heavy learning curve, unforgiving gameplay, get it wrong and you're fucked etc, and unfriendly community. It's not easy to get into and it's not forgiving if you get it wrong, nor are the people who play it. It also lacks the shine that other games have, it needs better models, sounds, and interface, as well as better special effects. Lock the VF and build them yourself.
