ok, ive been playing empires for about...a year? so dont start screaming noob at me i was just curious, can i install the full RC7, then download patch RC12 and then play, or do i need to download each other patch and add them in order? (i ask this because ive been having a bit of trouble with an RC of a different mod, installations going awry and such, making the game not work) another question; when the final release is implemented, theres obviously going to be a full installer for joe public, but will there also be a kind of patch (from the last RC) so that we dont have to wait 10 hours to download a 700mb game we already have? i'd appreciate an answer to the first Q ASAP, so i can hop right in and play
Q1: Not sure, applying all of them wouldn't hurt though. Q2: Odds are that the last RC (= release candidate) will be the final version, so you wouldn't even need a patch. What's the point releasing an untested final? (Really, think about what exactly we are doing here). The only thing you might need to do is rename some folders/files.
Q1: im sure downloading them would hurt though, RC7 was 700mb, and im downloading RC12 atm, and thats 100mb by itself; my ISP gets very pissy when i download too much....changing soon... Q2: i know what a release candidate is, but i had no idea that you could play with people from older RC's after you updated; i'm testing the release candidate for the specialists (HL1 mod) and you can only play with people who have downloaded your RC. also they are at the last RC (10), and the full release (with some changes) is being made pub soon; but they are making a patch for the updates that are being changed for the final release, so that people who have RC10 will not have to download a full installer in order to play it. am i correct in thinking that the last RC is what the public will play; so people who have the last RC will not need anything else when 1.08 goes public? i feel like im rambling on and making no sense, so dont be offended by this, but im going to draw a little diagram :D table of progress from left to right: TS RC10| - - - - - - - - - - TS 3.0| empires mod last RC AND final Version| there are going to be changes from the RC10 when TS 3.0 is released; im assuming by what you said, that this is NOT the case with empires. there, the last bit summed it up well; sorry i was having trouble explaining myself
ok, Q1 kinda answered i installed RC12 and joined the official server...everything seems ok (it was empty, so i hope it works when people play)
Well, your ISP sucks. And, yes, there shouldn't be any major changes between the RC and final making it incompatible.
