Ok firstly. When starting empires (beta build on steam) it seems to set default dxlevel (options-hardware-advanced) to direct x 8, I have a dx 11 card and this was always fine in 2,41 (defaulting to dx9). I need to force dx9 (mat_dxlevel 90) each time I start the beta branch. I was doing some testing with HDR (only when set to dx9, ran fine on dx8 by default) and ran into this problem: This spammed a whole bunch of output to console: Disabling the aero option fixed it: The aero option on caused the problems in the first picture. Candles suggested trying mat_dxlevel 95 which fixed it (I also tried mat_dxlevel 100, dx10 which broke it). Two questions for testers: 1. Does anyone else have a new problem with dxlevel being set wrong? 2. Does anyone experience problems with specific options not being saved?* * I spoke to spartacus and he says he can't change the aero option as it resets to on after restarting, I don't have this problem.
Running Windows 7 x64 with a DX10 GPU. I can't recall my previous DX level, but the default is "9.0+" and I cannot change it. I can change the Aero option, but the game demands a restart and it's always set "on" upon restarting. Despite those quirks, everything is pretty kewl.
The highest default for Source is going to be 9.0+ because 9.0c was the highest version when Source 2007 came out. You can force higher with mat_dxlevel though.
Does it make a difference if you force a higher level? Also, using source 2013, it should be able to default to higher level, right?
Beta - yes Didn't get as far as joining. As soon as I started Empires it popped up a window saying it needed 2007 sdk and started downloading it. After downloading 2007 sdk it was still crashing. Verified files had to re download 1 file. Was able to start using source 2013 launch test.
If you don't have Source 2007 installed and you trying and start Empires with the normal start option, it'll say that.
You don't need it. If you try and start Empires normally though with the first option, it'll check if you have it installed and install it automatically if you don't.
