Did you use demo smoother? Same with rendering, you should have used offline rendering to get nice FPS during part with 20 vehicles.

imo should wait till a decently balanced release with bugs ironed out and then do a big push advertising and steamworks

The "decently balanced release" is a myth.

    Im dissapointed.

Edit: How does one make trailer?
You are supposed to demo the game and then get material from the demo, but how do you do it and what program would be adviced to use for that and editing?

That trailer is not only much, much better than no trailer. As Blizzerd said, it actually does make me want to play.

Fraps to record, adobe premiere "PRO" to edit?

The vehicle bit at 0:16 seconds is pretty good. Funny that its on money.

I pretty much just used fraps during games, the 20 vehicle part was a demo trickster sent me that I fraps'd.

Just wanted to keep it empiresy.

I know, still learning through trial and error, I would like to start making some professional looking ones in the summer when I have a lot of time to work on them. Made this in two hours, guess it shows.

    Don't ever use fraps.

I've tried Fraps many years ago and I remember that it killed my computer while recording and that I got nothing usable out of it. Perhaps it was on an even older computer.

Yeah, I feel ya. It's not too bad trackwise though :)

Looks quickly done, but not like it lacks effort - and the outcome, like a few people have said, actually makes me want to play the game more. That's pretty good for something done in 2 hours ^^

Why not? It seems to work fine for what I want.

Just been reading on the valve developers wiki about the demo smoother, seems like something that would be extremely useful to make professional looking trailers, just need to learn to use it. If I didn't use fraps to record the demo file how would I get it into an editing program?

You make a lot of TGA files using offline rendering in Source and some external program to convert TGA stream to video.

Many Adobe programs feature image sequencing to turn tga into a video.
You should be able to import image sequences directly into Adobe after effects. I'm not sure about adobe premiere as it's an editing program and not compositing, but I believe I've done it before, just don't remember how. You could just use adobe after effects for this though, and then render it to a video with the adobe media encoder.

You can also use Quicktime pro to import image sequences, Final cut pro mentions this in the manual, can't do it with a free version of quicktime though, but if you really intend to go this route, you could use photoshop as well.

Fraps is a bad way to do it because it eats CPU and you could therefor lose frames, exporting a demo to tga will make sure all frames are exported, and obviously you can set the quality as high as you'd like when exporting these tga's (I'm pretty sure you can export frames as low quality jpegs too).

bloodreaever no because for instance I saw video compression done in real-time using graphics card and fraps is like 5-10x slower than this. It gets compressed to normal video format in real-time with decent compression. So it's not even good for real-time recording. And for trailers and anything that should look good you always want to use offline rendering.
