True, but for probably about $100 bucks, you could vastly improve your comp (i.e. by 2GB of ram and a way better graphics card). The sad part is that you're probably wasting most of your computer's CPU potential because your low RAM and crappy graphics card is throttling your performance.
Yeah I will prolly update ram eventually. I don't think I need more than a gig tho. The graphics card im not gonna fuck with unless my cousin wants to install it. I don't mind playing the game on ugly mode but does a better graphics card speed up anything like ram would?
a computer is as limited as its most limiting part is ... so unless you upgrade ram it wouldnt (seriously 500MB is quite low for a XP system already). i guess the treshhold for too-much-for-your-cpu lies somewhere in the x2000 or HD3000 series of ati-cards ... i played on a P4 with 3ghz (HT) and 2GB of ram aswell for quite a while. i upgraded my gfx card, which was a x1950 before, to an hd4850 (i got it for free yey) and didnt get ANY additional fps when it came to intense fights. now with my new CPU all runs fluid with the lowest framerate ive seen was something like 60. empires seems to be quite taxing when it comes to cpu - at least compaired to other source games which i could always (with the old setup too) play at maxed out details ... but im pretty sure someone with a more detailed insight will come up soon and correct me :D
......yes? When I upgrade my computer, what I like to do is find where my existing graphics card is on a benchmark or ranking list and then find a reasonably priced one that's a hell of a lot better. Here's two I like to use: Desktop Graphics Card: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/...uality/Sum-of-FPS-Benchmarks-Totals,1798.html Notebook Graphics Card: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
oh sorry dubee, i missread your question. no, unlike ram, a better graphics card ofc would only speed up applications that actually use it. for normal desktop shit (and since you prolly only run XP) your gfx card is enough as long as you dont want to use absurd resolutions or dozens (more than two) of monitors
Yeah only issues I have is shit takes forever to load or sometimes I can't have anything running in the background when I am in a game which I assume is just the low ram.
Ok I looked up what type of ram I have 512 MB DDR SDRAM PC3200 (400MHz), Dual Channel Is that just ddr?
Can't stress enough the "get some more!!" part Dubee. You'll be surprised just how good your computer is when you do. Seriously.
