Ignore balancing for now: talk about the concept itself. AFV Mk II: same as normal but with 2-slot cannon and a bit more weight LT Mk II: same as normal but with 2-slot ML and a bit more weight Test them out in game if you haven't yet
Ignoring balance, yes sounds like fun. But there is no way you can add this without fixing LTs firstly afv/lt balance and also so they can't ram up under the turrets of other tanks. Fix UML on a reactive/3 phase LT and its going to be a rape factory.
No...we do not need a Northern Faction MKII. An Brenodi would be nice.. At least make the NF MK2 an retrofitted APC...I'm hating LT buttsex.
Its good, can't help but picture HSM screaming about doing a Homing ML light tank rush and raping the CV tho. AFV with HE > infantry LT with guided ml > tanks Although generally LTs are awsome compared to an AFV anyway Should be nice to see the MKIIs get used properly in big games
I like the idea but I think it should be on the back burner for a bit. Right now you hardly ever see heavies get researched, its meds/arty or for NF its just straight arty. Having MK2's would make heavies an even rarer sight
Okay. It is still stupid. How would you be able to detect MKII over MKI besides when it starts to shoot?
OK good a real criticism of the idea not balance. Different turret tops could solve this and I'm not really sure its even a problem.... There's like what a 1 minute period where it wouldn't be know if the enemy had MKIIs. Anyway I'd rather see more 1-slot weapons and 3-slot weapons for heavies to diversify the chassis.
One major criticism is "do we really need more choices?", because Empires already has a steep learning curve, and adding more vehicles will only add to the confusion. One might also argue that lights->mediums->heavies is enough of a variety, and adding more options in only detracts from the others. These new tanks are too similar to mediums, and are basically free research.
Gotta agree with Simon tbh (he usually talks a lot of sense though), we've only got one 1-slot CN, and one 1-slot ML...it would be easier to diversify those. We only need two more variations each - both for 3-slot's and 1-slots tbh. The MKII's do seem cool, and I really liked them, but in the end they'll need new modelling and that's a real nono for this mod. You'd also never ever see a single med again...it'd be completely pointless. No one gets meds for their armour, they get them for their weapons. It'd be better to see things like dumbfire missiles - for 3-slot ML's, and maybe (homing, guided?) salvo's for 1 slots. You could bring in a fast firing 1-slot CN which kicks out a lotta heat (for use with high cooling engines) and a 3-slot cannon that has splash damage. Meh...these are bad ideas, but there's still a lot of good ones you could try
I like em. They help distinguish the factions more and give a better option than more expensive meds/heavies/arties. I'd rather have more of my team in cheaper MKII's than fewer in expensive heavies.
Biggest problem is the AFV, light tanks MKII are great. I know with HE afvs will destroy infantry but wouldn't that just make them an APC? I love the idea of more options for an early game victory instead of late game, (having MKII's 2-5 mins before mediums) when you have the upper hand they will help ensure your victory
HE afv's ??? the game dont need another tool to wipe out infantry. Especially if the afv's mkII are faster to research than meds it only would make infantry earlier useless...
And AFV MK2 would be great, an LT MK 2 I'm not so sure off. I love the idea of more tanks in game, it creates different strategies and gives the comms a little more todo, and makes the games more variable. I'd love to see more research opening up new versions of tanks and artrillery. (And even buildings. I came up with some decent ideas ages ago but they'd never get implemented in a million years.)
If you spot issues with the MKII's, like them raping heavies, please report this in the MK's thread so I can work on it.
