    hi folks...
I just wanted to get a dedicated server up an running, so I downloaded 2.23 full zip, installed tf etc pp, but I cant start the server, due to hl2 segfaulting.
so I downloaded 2.22 and updated it to 2.23 using the the patch and now the server starts.
but it shows as server version 2.22 in my server list and I can't connect.
then I copied all files once more into my empires folder and found out server_i486.so is missing in the full 2.23 zip and in the patch 2.23, might this be the reason why my server always shows up as 2.22? since the old server_i486.so isnt replaced by the files in 2.23.
hope I didnt confuse u. I'd appreciate any help.
    thx
    :(

This seems similar to my problem. I downloaded the 2.23 full install and it just flat didn't work.

furthermore, gameinfo.txt in the empires folder is missing in 2.23 full install, so even non linux users cant run a full install 2.23 server.

Go to empiresmod.com, and read the first entry. The one that goes "Due to technical Issues, the Linux build was late to the party, and has now arrived. You can download it..."

Missing gameinfo.txt was a goof with the program that makes the installer, and already posted numerous times.

Are you sure your srcds instance is up to date? Valve sent out an update that should have fixed it.

I just ran an update of tf but no new files were found:
    Code:
    Checking/Installing 'Team Fortress 2 Content' version 85
    Checking/Installing 'Team Fortress 2 Materials' version 27
Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Materials' version 8
Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Models' version 4
Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Sounds' version 4
Checking/Installing 'OB Linux Dedicated Server' version 4
    HLDS installation up to date

problem persists... I'll try again tomorrow. maybe i'll try a fresh install or test run a tf2 server so I can check if only empires is affected or the whole srcds bunch of games...

    i had the same issue, a month ago, there was a missing file that the server couldnt load after the orange box update;

I forgot the name of that file, but u can find it out by starting the server with -debug and reading out the crashfile, it will show u the files name and the source where it should be.

after that u can google the file and download it.

BTW, wich linux do u have? debian? and version?

actually its ubuntu 8.10 32bit running 2.6.27-11-server kernel
the server starts and runs (until i try to changelevel to any other map which makes it segfault as already described by others)
but whenever a client tries to connect it fails due to the mysterious 'invalid steam key size'
no messages about the connection attempt show up on the server console and since the connection attempt doesnt crash the server no debug.log entries are created.
I re-ran srcds update today, but it only fetched a new server.dll for tf2
I'll move my current tf directory and try downloading it again, maybe some file got broken.
