Cause the public thread was rather ignored and I fear that it will only turn into a flame war if I revive it. I make a new one here. The maps should be (almost) complete. The map should make fun. Discuss and remember kids! "It sucks" is not an argument. Atm moment the candidates are: The discriptions are only to tell you which map it is if you dont know the name nothing more Midbridge (the map with the HUGE destroyable bridge in the middle) Arid (also a map with a birdge in the middle and a captureable flag there) Shadows (push style map in a big city) Insurrection (the swamp map with lots of trees and soundeffects) NFescort (the escortlike map where NF attacks) Plunge (equal sided map with 2 destroyable bridges and a tunnel through the middle) Dune (a big desert with alot of greek style ruins) Sinking (an island with a big mountain, the water rises constantly) Nomis(forest) (a big canyon like map with the difference that theres a way through middle with a captureable flag) Temple (an island with a temple) bush (the map with the random ref node placement)
You mind making a list with screenshots, prominent features and general feedback from the public? I have no idea which maps are good or bad D:
plunge (Link to thread) I don't have a screenshot of it (just got new PC) but its kind of a mini- midbridge with an underpass/tunnel in the middle Midbridge ( Link to thread) seriously it's an amazing map if it was included in the 2.2 exe it wouldn't clear out servers (because people wouldnt need to download it) Arid: (Link to thread) I would say shadows but I have yet to play the latest version
emp_insurrection, of course... Seriously though, I would say emp_midbridge, emp_arid, emp_nfescort and emp_shadows. Those are the must haves that come to mind. Ones I'm a little unsure about are emp_plunge, emp_dune and emp_sinking mkii (yes, I am serious). There some others, but none come to mind at the moment.
If someone gives me the screenshots i will improve my first post. I cant do that cause its a bit of pain with having a touchpad only. Sinking mkII has the problem that i get stuck everywhere atm Are you 100% sure that insurrection doesnt crash anymore?! i also nominate emp_nomis emp_temple
I can tell you the maps that should NOT be made official.. frost blast smokies Maps that should be made official simon, I mean nomis temple dune (maybe) insurrection (maybe) plunge emp_nomis: Pic Very large map with a central control point. Bases can be setup just about anywhere apart from the central flag area. emp_temple: Pic Symmetrical map where simplicity rules supreme. Screaming totems in the centre are the battleground for refs whilst the tanks fight for the ground around them. emp_plunge: Can't find a pic Exactly like emp_money but with an underground tunnel leading to the other side and 2 central res nodes. Sounds shit, but it's awesome (and I hate money). emp_dune: Pic Large sandy map, like duststorm but will larger hill areas. emp_insurrection: Pic Murky water map where the tanks have to drive very carefully around otherwise they drown. Central ground holds higher res rate, but for some reason kills the server in terms of player count.
Insurrection lags too much for release and needs some cleaning up. Nomis looks like a new map and it is new map. It is rather bland too. Just a box map. Temple is iffy. The donmakus are cute but I never liked the gameplay. NFescort is imbalanced to hell and it is worse camping than normal Escort. Midbridge and Plunge is iffy but better than the last maps. Arid and Shadows are worth checking out for real though.
Shadows probly gives me the worst fps drop of any map, especiallyat NF start base when BE are pushing towards last few flags, because you are drawing aeverythign in the NF base, the fairly complicated church, and the street including a couple of enterable buildings so all in all it is a large and fairly complex area being drawn. I would maybe be able to play it if the layout in this area was sorted, until then i can't comment on gameplay.
One issue. The empires tree models. 2.2 gives static version of the trees so the lag issue is solved. *Edit* Did it? I thought I saw static in an update! I was using dynamic trees in 2.12 rc9... and you saw how many trees are in both parks. Optimization of that area also helps.
midbridge should diffenetly be added. It is a great map, and is a great quality map. I haven't played the other maps cause i've stopped playing empires till my new PC arrives.
emp_nomis (forest) has like one million dynamic trees in centre and the dont lack at all so i guess it isnt the reason why
Yeah, the OB engine and some optimization helps a ton. The trees did a lot of harm though in a smaller map like Shadows with more detail.
I like the atmosphere of the swamp map a lot, but not knowing where a vehicle can cross the water will just frustrate people and ruin many games. I can see many cv's dying just by accident.
I really like bush, perhaps silk could make a "vanilla" version with standard base placement and ref placement if it is considered too confusing for teh nubs. Sorry silk you will probably hate me for suggesting something that ruins the whole point of your map Also coffeeburritos upcoming traders map looks like it will be awesome, although I havent been invited to a playtest on it so can only speak from playing it by myself
I would have said Shadows, but RC9 is just another district402 now. Shadows RC8, put it in. Dune, add it. Plunge, hells yea Mibdridge! Blimbz That's my two cents.
emp_kingunderthemountain? It *might* be done by the time we get aircraft. lol. As for Insurrection, that was partly a joke, but I can do some cleaning up and delaggifying (from what I can tell, OB should be able to handle the map better) if thats what it takes for it to be made official :D. Maybe a minimap with enormous DON'T DRIVE HERE arrows on it :D
Bush Shadows Plunge Midbridge i'm iffy about, its rare to have a good game on that map because it requires a full server
Damn thats the one... BUSH. YES. GOOD. Midbridge takes so damn long to download it empties servers. Make it official and the problem goes away.
