I have a fairly old system, and my average fps on 800 x 600 (Low,Bilinear, No-AA) is 10-40. 40 is the usual, while 10 is the complete low. I know that the OB engine is fairly demanding as opposed to Source Vanilla, so I'm wondering:

Will there be a performance decrease on OB engine, and how large will it be.

I am not one of the testers, that's why I am asking this question.

It's not that demanding compared to other games. However, you may have issues. If you can play TF2 or Portal, you should be fine in empires.

Also, if you can see this forum, you are a tester ;)

OB does remove support for DX7 though, I believe, so if you have a really old card it will not work.

Yeah that's because we are running empires in debug mode

Normally you should get more fps

If you want to know the estimate of how much fps you will get without debug Load up a map in Source SDK orange box

    I have a friggin x200.

I can still run it in dx 7 (it says so in my options screen), and notice no difference between running dx7 and dx8.

Everythin runs pretty much just as well as empires 2.12, except the new disrict which won't go over 3fps for some reason.

I thought we would be seeing an overall performance increase - due to the removal of laggin' entities (random terminology). I guess that's not the same tho.

We're not running Empires in debug mode except very rare cases.
    Commands like mat_bumpmap 0 and mat_specular 0 help a lot.

You will see a preformance increase with the particles once we get all the particles over to the OB engine. Right now, its half and half...some are moved over, some arent. The Engineer sparks are, and you should notice a notable framerate increase when using the engy tool (I do)

the increases should be most server side as dual cores can actually be used now.
