Basicly: A button in the menu named ''Manual or Tutorial or whatever you can name it.'' --Or-- The video I and Buttery made. As if at least ONE new player downloads the mod (may it be steam or some other place) He will wonder what to do. And I'm not saying it will remove idiots! I'm just saying that it would remove.. a few idiots.
Sounds like a good idea. It could be even better if there was some kind of window that says "Did you know...? <10 things new players really need to know.>".
finish your series of vids btw, then it would be great. A simlar menu like what they have in garrys mod would be good.
There has got to be a tutorial level players MUST complete before they are able to play online. That is IMHO, a must have for 2.2.
no, that would just be incrediably annoying for them. A manual or a short tutorial level, like the one in dystopia
Ye, a tutorial map, but without the FORCING to play it. So.. Is it possible to make atm or do we need coding?
not possible in such short notice. Best the devs can do so far is add a "read the manual" button on the menu and have it pop up within the game methinks. Even then, it's pretty short notice with the deciding playtest being tomorow
Personal preference: - A menu link to a manual that pop ups immediately (no returning to dekstop to open a file or webpage, and no disconnecting from the server they are playing on). - The manual should be divided in categories so that people who are confused about something can just click on the respective category and only have to read the part they are unsure about. This way the manual can remain very detailed (it's pretty good as it is) cause people will only read small parts of it, namely the one subject they can't figure out themselves. Having the manual easily accessible from ingame, and having it divided in logical, specific and therefore shorter parts, will make the manual less boring. Many people will go through more category titles then just the one they originally needed information from. It should be as easy as this: An engineer who can't find out how to upgrade his turrets, will press 'esc', click on 'manual', click on 'engineer' (or building or whatever, depending on how the manual is made of course), read what he needs to know, press 'esc' again and continues playing.
Shouldn't be to hard to fix a button.. Devs, you think you can do this in a short time before 2.2 is released? (No need to playtest a button:p )
The HSM tutorial video for commanding: Build VF Build APC Scream at team to get in apc and follow Boomtank. Attack other Boomtank. GG.
You could remove the early game apc rush by having a resource multiplier for the first minute or so of the game which is something like 0.5 but then it goes back to 1 after that minute is up This would mean you wouldn't be able to apc rush straight away, but wouldn't interfere with the rest of the game Thoughts devs?
