I'm not exactly sure if this is an isolated incident or not so I decided to post it here instead of mantis. After checking the forums and seeing that the SVN thing is working I updated my game ddls and afterwards booted up empires 2.2 at first I thought it was empires not liking the steam servers menu and was going to report that on mantis but after trying to boot 2.2 via the games menu I encountered the same problem:

When I load empires 2.2 it freezes at the menu screen (before the buttons show up) and it says its loading in the corner, but after waiting about 10 minutes (each time I tryed) I was forced to restart my computer via hardware (it freezes my entire system)

does anyone else have this problem or is it only me?

    This fixes my problem, thanks
I cant join the server though it says it's "not responding" and doesnt even show up when you launch the game through the games menu (you can only see it via the steam servers menu)

Go into your empires 2.2 folder and check to see about svn folders with red ! over them. If they are present, delete the folder and re-svn update the empires folder. I had to do that a bit ago, because mine was not finding servers and such. If it's in the materials folder, or one of the big ones, find the lowest-in-the-folder-tree one that has a red icon on it, and delete that, so you don't have to redownload lots.

There shouldn't be any conflicts after you downloaded if from SVN. Don't mix 2.2 Empires from RCs with Empires from SVN.

So did I....although eventually I ended up clearing out all the red exclamation files and it works, though I expect i'll have to re-download in a new folder to clear all the bugs up.

For some reason, I can't start it now

    It says :

"Module C:\filepath\client.dll is a debug build"

I don't know what is wrong, but it won't let me get to menu. All I can do is double click it in games and start to load it. That is all. Help?

Make sure you have a clean empires directory, then run SVN over the top of it.

Also, with the current binaries are built in debug mode to track down a crash, so, you need to go right-click properties on the Empires shortcut, then go to Set Launch Options and copy this in
    -console -windowed -debug -allowdebug

I dont know why but it still isnt working. I don't get any error. It shows steam loading the game and then a window will appear and disappear in 3 secs. Thats it.

That helped with the debug error, but mine has never had any issues running fullscreen. Didn't this time either. Also, the server is down/I'm not seeing it.
(Yes, I just SVN Updated, so I have the latest shit)

*EDIT* want me to post my console startup log somewhere?

Secondary edit, just tried to create a server(I know it's been having issues) and the mdump Here was generated.
