Aircraft physics works in game. There were a few testing sessions which involved flying 1/16th scaled afv's. It's the both at once that was causing problems iirc.
Would it be worthwhile either enabling 1/16th for land only combat, or given that you'd possibly end up with maps that were far too large even for vehicles how about some intermediary stage like 1/4 scale or something? Even 1/2 could be interesting for longer games
4x ground maps would be fun. In an "even ranged arty can't shoot that far" sort of way. Imagine emp_money_4x
ya I dont really think its nessessary to go to 16x for aircraft maps, just go to 4x or something IMO. You dont even need to go to 16x for 3d skybox, you can do 4x 8x or whatever, 16x is just a good level of detail while keeping it small.
2x maps would be nice because 1x standart size ends in a clusterfuck of brushes if you want to make a big fullgrid map. Emp_mesa would have more fps if I had twice the size to build because it gives room for optimisation. Because of the fucked up physic on the edges of the grid it would be better to make 4x scale possible and place 2x maps in the middle.
If I read correctly others have already suggested this but I'll point it out one more time. Why not just scale all maps to 1/16 size and then all the physics would be the same 1/16 no matter what sort of vehicle you would use. Then the maps which are designed only for land vehicles, such as canyon or money or any other map which we currently have, would remain the same size ratio but would be 16 times smaller on hammer's grid. Then when the aircrafts come in to play on bigger maps we are still using 16 times smaller maps but the map on hammer's grid would be bigger thus making it bigger in the game too.
I don't think the physics engine will scale down proportionally. It doesn't have much to do with map, as that is already scalable and has been scaled.
I think that 16x is unreasonable for gameplay, even 4x could be too much. A map 16 times bigger would require 16 times more players, somehow I don't expect the source engine to support 512-1024 players. I think it would be best to stick with the smaller maps + Helis/VTOLs.
you dont have to have people on all places all the time it would enable more strategy because the enemy has to "find" your base, atm they always know at max 4 spots where you could be
Aircraft are VTOL. The devs have them in internal testing builds. And if they say the current maps are too damn small just listen to them because unlike you, they have flown the aircraft.
