why do i see 1.08 loaded on the official server. Can i get it ;P I need it!!!! I voted =] I see, any results?
lol? in my computer take 30-60 seconds... (at min detail at 1280x1024) some solution can be reduce lightmap quality on maps but is strange take that long time to load :/ bye!
actually it has something to do with it. On my old computer it took about 8 min. Now it takes about 30-50 sec.. The amount of VRAM and normal RAM makes all the difference... apart from that internet connection does matter too
Everything thats essential for a PC to run factors in. RAM: the more RAM, the less compression is needed to store resources Without more ram that the WINXP requirement, you cant play. In order to play, the RAM loads copies of all needed files (e.g. maps, models, etc) and can then actively change those files to reflect different things (blood on a player model, scorches on a map, anything that needs to be actively changed). Processor: The faster it is, the faster it can access incoming data over the internet, and load things into RAM. GPU: All the textures, player models, vehicle models, building models, effects, shader's etc need to be loaded into the GPU's on board RAM, or shared RAM so that it can be processed instantly. RAM is the most important thing in games, its impossible to play most modern games solely off hard disk.
I'm dreaming here, but it would be cooler if you could automatically download the latest version when joining a server running that version. I'm thinking like the way you download a map. Of Course, the game would likely need to restart, and that downloading would be a huge strain on the server if it wasn't downloaded from an off-site location. Still.
In other words, STEAM update that requires you to launch the game. Its easy enough to update, just run the installer, point it to you empires or source mods directory (I forget which), and let it run.
Has to load everything into cache... from the menus to the tank textures, to the player models... Slower CPU's and HD's are probably the culprit; try defraging your HD twice a year or so; also try increasing the paging file size...
