1.08 Issue Can't play :(

Ok, although i received a lot of help from the kind people of the community about my issue from my other thread, I thought it would probably be best to post a thread on the specific problem, and maybe get help from the devs(my other thread was initially to see if 1.08 worked with any source game). If i was wrong in making this or posted this in the wrong place, forgive me, im still quite new to forum(ing)?

Ok, I own a legal liscensed copy of Counter Strike:Source which I paid and downloaded via Steam. Ive also downloaded the source SDK base required to run the mod. As far as Steam tells me my account is in good-standing order. I have other source mods that work fine, empires is the only one i get this problem with, reading about the mod and seeing all the recent screenshots makes me want to play even more . My problem?This:

"Disconnect: This Steam account does not own this game. Please login to the correct Steam account"

The potential solutions I was given by the great community and have already tried:
-Close steam,install rc7-15 in correct path, restart steam.
-Open source sdk base,connect to server through console
-Use applaunch thingy,change paths to match my own
-Deleting ClientRegistry.blob while steam is closed, and let steam update itself
-Re-installing the whole conooddle(steam,cs,source sdk base, rc7-15)
After all that, i was still slapped in the face by the error. I even tried the above on another system i have in the basement(which is why its takin me a long time to post this)

If there's anything elsei can do that might solve this problem, I'm all ears.

What is this 1.08 and these 'Release Candidates' that you speak of? Where did you find out about this piece of Empires lore?

what does it say when opening the game?

 

Opening the game , a nice flashy empires logo appears followed by the backround image and a little thing in corner saying loading. When its done loading i get the join server,create server(i know this has been disabled),freinds,options,control,quit menu options. When i try and connect to the server ill get this:

Thats as far as it loads before the error shows and disconnects me.

I'd say you need HL2DM, not sure though. The best bet is to get the HL2 game of the year edition, with basically everything so you're absolutely sure you can't miss anything.

 

1.08 should only require the source sdk. Try deleting steam.inf in your empires directory.

 

This doesn't have any effect for me.
Deleting the steam.inf entirely stops me from being able to connect through the server browser, but when connecting to the server through console it still wants hl2dm to have been purchased on the account.
Leaving only the patchversion in the steam.inf reallows joining through the browser.

 

Open gameinfo.txt and try making it say the following:

Still no change in behaviour.

Edit: Looking back through previous patches, gameinfo.txt seems to be fairly constant (at least between rc13 -16) so I think it'd be fair to assume it's not that.

 

I can't be sure but did you get css free with that graphics card deal?

 

Nope. I bought it on its own.

 

You're saying you could play before rc13? Can you play any mods?

 

PVKII uses the sdk base, and I can run that fine.
RC13 worked for me, RC16 does not work... I never tried 14 or 15 (although I have installed the patches).

 

This makes me feel slightly better knowing im not the only one not able to play.
Like Dafleck, deleting steam.inf or changing game.info to what you posted did not resolve this. I didn't find "Empires" before rc15, so i wouldnt know if rc13 would have worked for me(sure wish i did find empires when 13 was used )

Im starting to think its not a coincidence that both of us(who cant play) just have CS: S

 

We are currently at RC 16. I hope I didn't just find the problem because that would be really embarrasing.

 

I'd say the problem is on the server. If you could play with RC13, then I have a hunch as I did modify the gameinfo.txt around that time on the server.
