Hi again, it's time to talk about a new pug. I'm going to preface this a bit with saying I tend to be working most saturdays now, so if this pug does happen it's going to happen a couple hours earlier then usual, around 5 pm UTC, Noon EST. Sorry if that's inconvenient, but it's either that or wait til summer for another pug. The theme of the pug is about less resources. Commanders will have to actually think about costs, tank spam isn't how you are going to win, and other such things. I intend to do this by simply cutting the res flow in half and wages in half, as far as I know both are server side things. My question to you is this going to be enough? Do you think I should do something different? Saying it now I don't want research costs because I would have to give every commander those scripts so they can see costs and it doesn't really lower income that much. Or in short, I don't want to do too many changes at once, I'm not trying to go for trickster's vintage pug. Maps I already have an idea, I'd like to try playing a few maps we didn't have a chance last time, namely commandergrad, with fuel, silo, or chain. I feel like these maps will make better use of more infantry thanks to lower res. We'll also try ending the event with king again, it is a good map, pugs are the only time to really play it, and it has to be last because it has that habit of crashing. Last thing is I do intend to use the pug plugin again, but this time I'm limiting captains to pick 6 players each(basically 5 possible squad leads and a commander) then random the rest. Keeping it just 6 players pick will help speed up the setup which many complained about. I don't think the plugin has been updated yet so there's a high chance of teams being the same between maps, because of that after the 2nd map we might do a another team pick, which would help freshen up the teams too. Won't do it if teams actually switch though. Reason I'm sticking with it is because it really really helps with balanced teams, autoassign from the start doesn't work because we can still end up with kinda stacked or lopsided teams. ETA of pug is somewhere at the end of January, beginning of February. I just need to find the right time to host it.
if we do a less res pug we need to be able to count on admins kicking or slaying people who buy tanks that arent suppose to.
Traditionally, in a PUG people listen. And if people don't then that's poor coordination and you deserve to lose.
noobs tend to be allowed to play in pugs nowadays Also @Lazybum if some noob throws away a 1.5k heavy tank cause he bought it or stole it admins need to insta punish instead of the usual public; do you have evidence? Did you record it? Ow well sorry, its your fault you arent 24.7 recording and have it instantly ready to show attitude Cuase Im going to be really fucking salty if that happens edit: omg imagine matthew or treemen doing this, I would litterally blow my mind out I think
The last PUG all I recognized were vets. In fact, it was 50 people on and the noobs were still on NUBS main server. If Mathew did it I would blow my brains out, though I'd blow it out if he was even on my team due to his voice. Treeman isn't that bad I don't think... you shouldn't drive him away. He's an australian and this community, if it had an Australian part, would be active 24/7 then.
Considering I can't reasonably expect sign ups or even people to look at a million announcements and events with the password yeah event kinda needs to be open. Obvious griefing isn't going to be tolerated of course, if someone is stealing tanks and giving enemy free res of course they get a swift kick and possibly a short ban depending on how obvious and horrible the grief was, but I will take what people say with a grain of salt. I've seen too many times of people getting super mad at someone losing a tank by accident and calling it grief. I tend to actually be playing the game too, so it might take me a few seconds to kick. That said I haven't really seen much greif in the past few pugs, so I hope it doesn't come to that.
Is this that thing I said I was going to do and then never got round to? Because I'd totally be willing to help you out, I just completely lost the time and motivation to do it myself.
I'm up for any PUGg and can help announcing it (spamming people with friend invites and then spamming them in chat)
can we have a forgotten maps pug? Maps that we just dont play anymore cause we forgot about them or havent played them in a pug for decades-> internetisforporn, badlands, dune, glycenplains ( did anyone ever finish this map )
Badlands you can't place buildings on. That's why its not played. All you can do is place barracks and radars. No vehicles unless you are, I think, BE.
Glycenplains was meant to be played last pug, but it didn't have a minimap and I made one for it a little too late(making minimaps is a pain). It's playable now though, but it does have a couple of oversights when it comes to the actual map. Namely in the mid part you can drive up this snow dune onto a cliff that's suppose to separate the map. While it does look a bit intentional, the fact there's a big hole in the map you can see once up there can't be intentional. I would be fine with dune, just other maps tend to get played instead. I dunno about internetisforporn though, I feel like there was some problem with it. Badlands is a bit small though, isn't it? I don't really want to play smaller maps on pugs, it's generally a time for bigger maps that can't be played otherwise.
Just giving some examples, I would love to play a few less played maps. Also a rerun of glacial or what ever it was lasttime would be coolio. That map was great. Chain was also great this saturyday with almost 60 people
it depends how many people will be playing. at 32 you can half it and it'll be fine. however once you hit 40 players the res is doubled again due to the multiplier you might want to change the player multiplier so there wont be huge jumps in resources during gameplay
Yeah, I had a talk with trickster about res income. There's some solutions but I need to test them first.
