So i've been playing around in hammer and i love the new manifest/instance option, makes prefabs obsolete and now becoming one with the scuplting tool. I've always and probably be a horrible displacement editor/maker. For anyone else that would like to know about the sculpting tool, Interlopers has made a really good tutorial. Read it even if you know how to use the new tool, the shortcut keys are what you need, bought time valve did something good with hammer. http://www.interlopers.net/tutorials/32664
uhm actually THIS carve tool seems to be usefull to bad im on win7 ... fuck valve for braking hammer QQ
hot dam the carve tool looks pretty sweet and it makes everything more square so that you can then do the old raise/lower on it later, really good for making steep cliff faces that are difficult with the raise/lower tool.
Oh christ, someone actually took me seriously. Never touch hammer again Grantrithor. Ever. Just uninstall it.
but you realize that the displacement editing thing now has a carve tool too, trick, yes? i wonder why they didnt call it "make a ramp"-tool or just "ramp"-tool, naming it after the most fail thing in SDK has to lead to misunderstandings. also no, grantrithor, dont use that to make cliffs. use vertical displacements instead
The carve tool within Sculpting is your friend, the ACTUAL carve tool is your enemy and you shall never touch it or use or even think about it.
So the new hammer features are there for all games and mods, or just the games using the latest engines?
my hammer still won't operate even with the forced dx8 so I haven't had the chance to try out the new toys.
It's hammer, how could it not be for older games? Unless it adds new data to displacements or something but from the sound of it it just adds a new tool.
The regular carve is bad because brushes block vis. Displacements don't so the 'OMG 100000000000 BILLION VISLEAFS FFFFFFFFFF' problem doesn't occur. Carve away (on displacements)!
