I can play sounds but they sound like crap and cannot be understood, I have Autoexec in the empires/cfg folder and I have HLSS set to source sdk base 2007, and I have all the files in wav format and when I play it in Windows player it sounds fine. Is there something else I supposed to do or is it just empires?
HLDJ is much, much better. Also, make sure you sounds are worth listening to, in the right directory and that you have converted them properly. (11khz, 16 bit, mono otherwise it won't work)
Im so confused, 44.1 khz works better for tf2 but 11khz works better for empires? ill try the 11khz first and then ill switch to hldj if that doesn't work.
HLDJ is good if you have a large library of assorted sounds. HLSS is good if you have different combinations of sounds for quick toggling between them.
you can bind keys and get the best of both with HLDJ. eg bind F4 84 Also, make sure it's mono, not stereo.
I believe you, cause I only had the 44.1 khz for a sound that made all dispensers play crocodile rock and since it was a local sound it worked well, and now I know not to ever play 44.1 except if I want the cool sounds it made like Varbles said
The 11khz/mono/wav file is a source engine limitation (which is why it is the same for both hlss and hldj). You 'can' play other types, but they are probably going to be distorted.
