jumping as a self defense mechanism against mortars would add a layer of unprecedented dynamism to infantry combat where a player must decided whether to jump to mitigate mortar damage or be thrown into the air with awful accuracy and a wasted opportunity for shooting
the really skilled players will jump to reduce mortar damage, get bounced, then fire an rpg at the enemy gren below like talk about high level play, man
Doesn't it already work this way by virtue of how the game works? When you jump, it moves you a bit away from the explosion and a bit up, reducing the damage. But because you're in the air above the explosion, it pushes you away more. I've definitely seen it happen to players and I've done it a few times myself, getting a good distance away and sometimes going high enough to take falling damage on the way down.
i was thinking that the effect be increased because right now it's just ap hysics thing but you can totally makeit cooler
I second what Candles says. The effect is already quite noticeable, and I see no reason why it should be increased any further.
On a semi related note does anyone else think stamina for jumping is really weird? Yes I know there's it's more realistic but it's just something I always forget about and end up out of breath (plus jumping onto awkward ledges can fuck you over)
No, it was originally intended to limit bunny-hopping. An exploit that lets you cover ground very quickly by timing jumps precisely in many source games.
limited stamina sucks. especially in a game like empires where the next cover is further away then your stamina bar hold. this leads to unobvious and annoyingly inconvenient mashing of the shift key - empires isnt supposed to be summer games isnt it? strafe jumping was no issue in q3 why would it be in empires? i think empires would actually profit from more quake-like movement controlls - its very arcardey with racecar heavy tanks and indestructo jeeps anyway.
Does someone know if the mortar impact is looking something like this? White Arrow is the direction of the mortar The 'X' is the impact location of the mortar. The red colour is the area of effect.
Sprinting lasts for at least fifteen seconds. Unless you're running across a desert and without an engineer, there is always cover to be found in sprint range.
You want bunny jumping in Empires? You want bunny jumping mortar people and riflemen who cannot be killed? :D hahahhahahahaa. I mean, what could possibly go wrong if we added this and people picked melee upgrade? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH8QHPFFF2A And no uretha, we don't have that.
Not that I wouldn't love me some of that... but no. Without rocketlaunchers, gibs and magma it'd be retarded.
