The new Hull ships are out during their LTI concept sale!

The Hull series are meant for transport.

Hull A is a bona fide babby. It's like a little panel van. How adorable!

But the Hull C is the real looker. Ow ow ow!

These are going to be the best dedicated transport ships!

They look like they could carry so much stuff, right?

    ...

Well they go all Transformers on our asses and carry even more. :3

    Awwwwww yiss

    They get big.

    Such sexy, wow.

There are actually five of them. Hull A is $60 and Hull E is $550. All of their cargo capacities blow every similarly sized/priced ship out of the water.

Hull C looks like a commercial airliner, and that actually makes me want to fly it.

    this.
Those are clearly utilitarian designs, and the hull A and B seem to lack rear/top defense, if it is turning slow, it will be a real problem for the pilots.

Yea. Also as far as things go with these ships, from an economy perspective nothing will be nearly as lucrative in a single trip. If Wired determines a big disparity in pricing between a couple systems, you could make a lot of credits with a decent escort to transfer resources.

The thing that gets my motor revving is the modularity of these ships. Apparently you can sacrifice a few of those cargo pallets for cargo pallet-sized shield turrets, shield generators & other goodies.

Seeing a Hull E specced out for combat might be rather frightening - a sort of ghetto capital ship. There are a lot of exterior-facing cargo pallets on that thing and plenty of room on the inside for supplementary pallets to support all of the guns.

I think there will be interesting and non-interesting aspects.

Obviously, it's boring to just travel from place to place with cargo. But it's kickass to have to defend against pirates or nervously fly blind through a nebula.

I remember something being mentioned about power when it comes to modules. It's one of the reasons there's still a purpose to the more civvy ships like the 315p or mustang beta. I can't remember what exactly it was, but if you are looking to do something that isn't fighting there's suppose to be a good reason why you wouldn't want to just get the nice fighter and retrofit it to do more mundane things even if it has more weapon hard points because it just won't be as effective at the stuff it wasn't meant to exactly do.

It's for that reason I don't think you could make a ridiculous transport ship decked out for war. Sure it can have some modules attached, but I would assume there's a limit to power output to power those turrets or shields. Cargo is just a box, no real need for power for that yeah?

You're probably right. I know there's the fringe case of climate-controlled cargo, so maybe there are "pipes" for power to the cargo pallets, but I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't the case since there could be self-contained climate-controlled varieties of cargo pallets (just like irl).

And considering that possibility, turret/shield/sensor modules might also provide their own power. Those three varieties were the only ones confirmed from the Hull news post, so there has to be some way to get those to work. We'll see what happens. I wouldn't be surprised if we never see these ships in game until a year or more from now. A lot could change.

If people played ice truckers and had fun, people are certainly going to have fun playing space truckers.

Maybe instead of giving hobbes that star farer to ram into shit we can just give him a hull e with tons of explosive pallets.
