Hey guys. Ever since 2.28 came, I struggle with my FPS. If I just stare at an empty spot, it runs fine, but as soon as 2 people or more are on my screen, the game comes to a crawl... I'm fairly sure it has to be 2.28. Before, I never ever had any problems with it. And yes, I have a good gaming pc, and a good internet connection. Any ideas?
similar problems here, games with many players (40+) and vehicles are a slideshow for me. it wasnt that bad in previous versions.
Its those new particles. Someone should yell at empty to remove ALL particles so I can see my enemy but, not know where my bullets go or where the cannon shots go.
I've been noticing increased lag since 2.28. I'll watch net graph a little more carefully next time I play and see if it's client or server side (e.g. if the number of updates in drops well below 33 during the lag, it's server side).
RE I've also noticed way worse fps, my machine had no problems before. My hardware is a bit dated 9800gtx+ and Q6600 CPU 4 gigs of ram etc. but I dont have any problems pre 2.28 and on any other source game at full settings.
it started at 2.26 for me =\. i get decent rates looking at the background.. as soon as 1 infantry shows up on my screen, it drops A LOT. =(
For me it at seemingly random points, but usually when there is a big battle going on somewhere on the map. It lags for about 5-10 seconds and then is fine. It is really annoying.
Please check net graph when the lag occurs, and report if the number of updates in drops, or if the FPS drops. That will tell the devs whether to rip Empty a new one, or to figure out what code needs to be looked at for bottlenecks. To use the console, you must enable it by going to the options screen and enabling the developer console. You can then open the console by using the ~ key. To display net graph, type net_graph 2 in console and press enter. You can use net_graph 0 followed by the enter key to hide it again. On net graph, the number of updates in is the rightmost number on the IN row. For more info, take a look at this walk-through.
Playing with 3 on is a bit annoying, and 2 gives you all the info you need to make the initial report.
I usually play with net_graph 1 on. I have become used to watching it in my peripheral vision and it tells me when shit is about to happen.
I tried running 2.28 on my normal settings, everything high except for AA, which is at 2x. I crashed. I had to turn everything down to medium to run 2.28. WTFFFFFF
Sometimes I randomly drop to 10 fps for a period of time, and then all of a sudden it goes back to normal.
There are a couple of possibilities: Particles Server's configuration or environment (doubtful) Minimap updates Some other type of code change If you're only having an FPS drop, and not an in update rate drop, that rules out #2.
it is either minimap updates or code change particles have always been 'fine' for me and I get only FPS drop, not update rate drop
I rarely have frame drops but then this is mostly because my harddrive is busy at the moment (I think it's busy with swapping). Currently I have only 2 GB RAM. I think a memory upgrade will solve this problem for me. Check the taskmanager after you have played. The maximal memory usage (peak) should be smaller then the physical memory size.
