Couldn't we have something like that integrated into empires? It would save lots of people from raging and we have ovr9000 mappers. MEWANTS.
We have a complete training server. And it's hard to explain empires only with some maps. There has to be also a trainer around.
Which is ridiculous in itself. If the game is so opaque as to require someone to explain how to perform even the basics, something is going wrong. I'm not saying dumb the game down, Empires as it is not particularly complex, but the human element in teaching people how to play needs to be removed. We all should know how unreliable that human element is.
Think about this: Dystopia. -"Tutorial" option -A guy tells you how to do almost everything -Unlimited respawns -All subjects covered, except a good portion of storyline -No enemies, except these indestructible sentry turrets that you have to hack to turn off. Even that is explained. All we have to do is do something similar. Something that requires the player try all classes, including commander.
Savage 2 is very similar to Empires and has a pretty decent tutorial. But at least some form of bots are necessary to make a commander tutorial, obviously. (And honestly, I'd be curious to see if anyone could use comm-controlled bots to do any interesting map-specific things on other custom maps.)
There is a tutorial map in the making, the only thing holding it back is the extra features that'll be included with 2.25, so we can't release the tutorial map untill 2.25 is released.
You mean someone actually completed a tutorial map? After something like half a dozen tries? I do wonder what happened to BJ's scripted tutorials though..
i think i saw it in hammer once. i'm not sure if I did that or saw a compile of it, but it does look great. it really is. There is a thread as well iirc.
