My shameless bump to show off my new desktop. The shell is BBLean, as given to me by Evangel, and the desktop is from the /wg/ of 4chan.
My Vista desktop. Running DeskScapes 2.0 (so that Earth actually rotates), WindowBlinds 6.2, and ObjectDock Plus.
In properties I can make it spin faster or slower, but there is no other interaction. They have a free trial version for download that comes with a couple of animated backgrounds. It works on any Vista version, but doesn't allow any other dreams to be used. Paid version has no such restriction.
Yes and no. Vista Ultimate gives you ability to set movies as desktop backgrounds. You can even hack the Home and Business editions to add DreamScene functionality too. Stardock's .dream format takes it one step further by providing dynamic content and event triggers. That spinning earth from my desktop for example, shows the day/night cycle based on my computer's time zone and clock.
I'm saying, that at least in past, DreamScene itself is free. I have it for free, legally. It isn't free for those not on Ultimate. And tbh, it isn't a feature I use in Ultimate...so pointless. I rarely look at my desktop, as I usually have a browser open, a VS2008 window (or two, or five), a build window or something else. In past I spent tons of time getting my desktop looking nice with ObjectDock and all that...and just got sick of it. Its far easier to just use the start menu search in Vista, or the quick launch menu...or worst case, have a few icons on my desktop and do a windows key + d to minimize all windows and find the icon....
It can be It's not a feature, it's a toy. And so is DeskScapes. And isn't this the point of this thread - to show off pretty toys?
