I dont like the word "indie" but I like alot of the games that are labeled that way. I really wonder why no one made a empires like "indie" clone. Something with stuff like simple stylish graphics, maybee procedural generated maps etc... would be awesome and runs on every antique empires community pc
Empires clone? I'm sorry but calling empires unique when it in itself is a rip off of battlezone is just funny.
Hello? Natural Selection 2 was as indie as you can get. Indie doesn't mean that it has to run on the average African family PC.
because no developers also jews I dunno man, battlezone had AI when you created tanks and they formed into squads. That made 1vs1 possible and made free for all matches possible. Then you directed them across the map, and also had aircraft. It's a shame battlezone is a forgotten gem.
Allegiance as well was a lot like empires (comm research, buildings, trying to secure resources was a main objective, customizable spacecraft based on comm research). Also have you guys forgot Nuclear Dawn, aka copycat empires aka the game every single empires player unanimously agreed to hate since the year 2006/07. I like how "indie" for video games has basically turned into the same word as "indie" for music. Just so people know, "indie" is short for "independent", not "retro".
Dawn has some real good infantry combat compared to empires, but it lacks everything else. No vehicles, all the maps are linear and feel like a tower defense game than an rts fps. Surprisingly enough hey have working AI and is viable during matches, but doesn't contain the cleverness of a human.
like grantitor said who the fuck cares who the fuck cares who was first goddamn anoying stupid empires forum
Speaking of independent Empires clone, has there been any contact with thier dev team? Seeing as they actually released a game and made money off it successfully might I add. I think it would be a good idea for empires and thier dev team to create a game together and market it. See as they have several lacking features that our game has, and lacking a majority of the shit they have. I think we can create a cohesive game together.
Nuclear Dawn wasn't bad. However, it feels like it will never go out of beta. I remember I bought it during beta, remember it was officially "released" about two years ago, come back to it a few weeks ago and see "BETA" stapled all over it, even an in-game water mark. It's like the devs went "Oh, shit this isn't what we wanted. Revert status to in beta!".
Yeah, there's a reason nuclear dawn and natural selection had moderate success. Empires is a jack of all trades, master of none.
This is the team that pretty much said they were going to add vehicles, then gave up because prediction was too much effort.
It seems Krenzo with his placeholder duct tape code did what a bunch of more experienced dudes couldnt. Lol.
Nuclear dawn was pretty fun at times with an organised team. Lacked vehicles and on release it was pretty horribly imbalanced.
Might not have died if it had vehicles. Also, what A-z-K said. It was fun during beta before anyone worked out how to play it. I tried it a few months later (on numerous occasions) and every single game had one team hemmed in with turrets, it just fucking sucked. The game was turret warfare.
