In the recent patches, APC has been greatly nerfed, which AFV has been greatly buffed, especially with improved standard cannons. Instead of wasting time on DU, you can just get reflective and start getting mk2 afvs with the extended ranged already in same branch as reflective. Fission engine takes about the same time to research from that point as any other engine, therefore picking up gas turbine in mechanical along with the chasis is a good idea. Even in a hilly or CQB map, its still a better choice to stick with ER, because ER is going to be a lot faster than going into a new tree to get HE, plus ER has almost as large a blast radius as HE. Why get missiles? one cannon is good enough, and most people won't waste armor plates to get an extra weapon. Homing is a shitty missile anyways. Rarely would you get mediums and heavies. The only logical reason this would happen is that you planned to end the game quick with mediums, but miscalculated and had the time to go heavies. Never get composite unless you are on a money map and have competent people who can keep tanks alive. In short, your research path takes too long and includes too many obsolete products. Skip the whole APC thing. APCs are dead as of 2.23.
General Brenodi research strategy = Physics ---> Heavies ---> Victory. Everything you research before heavies delays the Heavies ---> Victory part of the strategy, so in general only reflective, engine, and ranged cannon are justified. Also, you get medium tanks for free when you research upgraded chassis, only they are called AFV MKII. Thats Brenodian for medium tank, I guess the translators got lazy.
If you're trying to convince people of a particular research path, including homing missiles is not a good idea.
i go physics>Projectile physics>Reflective,ER Then Mechanical>Turbine and then go for heavies of course thats up for evaluation of my team is really lagging behind and if we either don't have time or not enough resources i could just go for tanks or leave it at afv.
What OuNin said: Skip fission for gas turbine to save time. Also, railguns? In 2.24? Double ER seems effective enough. I find it kind of sad we're stuck in the one tree thing again
its less effective now. I think rail guns have hold their own against ER, but the power does not justify the weight, especially when the rof has been almost doubled.
ok, first of all, the original post is incorrect use these instead reflective/fission/ranged/heavies/nukes/biodiesel regen/diesel/HE/upgraded chassis/gas turbine/(arty and/or ranged, if required)/heavies ounin: skipping fission means you have to take more time later to get nukes
Fission or Ass Turbine is sortof a strategic choice. Do you want an engine thats fast, light and next to nukes or do you want an engine asap that also has better cooling properties. Either way is fine, depending on map (hills = fission). Personally I usually go turbine. Every second you have heavies and they don't is a second you are pushing them back and attacking their stuff, plus slow tanks stick together more -_- Rail Guns are fine, but they just aren't better enough then ER to justify getting them instead of nukes or coolant or something. Also, like ScardeyBob said homing missiles suck. In the time it takes them to lock on you can just drive up next to them and unload UMLs.
Physics -> Projectile Physics Reflective Armor Extended Range Cannon (Half the team will gripe about not haveing tanks yet if you get it now or the other half will girpe about not haveing guns when you get tanks) Heavy Caliber MG (at some point) 1600 res, 5.5 min Nuclear Fission -> Fission Reactor or Gas Turbine, the time is the same, Fission is 75 res more but better if you are planing on geting nukes later. Mechanical Engineering -> Upgraded Chassis o Medium Tank Chassis (only if short on resources or unable to support heaves) o Advanced Chassis -> Heavy Tank Chassis At some point, getting Heavy Caliber MG is a good idea, the 2x .50 cal is nice to have on tanks, to keep the infentry at bay. Suggested cost 7415 res, 24 minets. Worst case (mediums, fission, 50cal) for this research, 5175 res, 17 min. Best case (rush heaves) 4350 res, 14 min. If you still have not won yet and are drowning in resources, then you can start researching other things, ie composit, nukes, bio and plasma. Some constructive notes: 3phase + rail heavys = fail due to overheat? Composit costs 60% more than reflective. 2x rails = 2x ER + 50cal - 1 plate armor.
What the? This is a terrible research plan. Railguns have to much heat to be used with 3 phase. Not to mention a bunch of other things that aren't workable.
Hey guys I came to this thread to tell everyone how bad their research is and how mine is better, but it looks like someone beat me to it.
Most things seem to work in 2.24. All the armors, engines, and weapons work, some work better than others, and some work better for some factions, for example electrical engineering is universally better than physics for NF because their LTs can pack full reactive and AT weapons with no waste, not true of reflective, and 3 phase is best for lights, and they can make better use of guided/homing than of ER cannon. But if you researched physics you could still win, it's more about how you perform at the start and how good your players are than what stuff you research.
Pretty much anything but reactive (beyond afvs), or biodesiel first, works for BE. Physics -> heavies is definitely the best research path however.
sorry maxom, you got my favorite path wrong: 3phase reflective (hmg) ER upgraded chasis homing medium chasis victory
