Nobody else seems to have mentioned this yet. I'm glad you decided to use part of the trailer as the startup, but I was wondering if you wanted the original version without the music on. Otherwise, if you want something totally different, I'd be more than happy to make that.
Maybe i could upload it to youtube . Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw3zaRP__Ko Try not to show it to people who haven't seen it.
The sound does seem to get out of synch quite often for me. Maybe a different codec would work better. I'll do some experiments with the various supported formats to see what gives the best results.
YES, please turn it down or have some kind of ramp-up on the audio level! I almost blew my ears out when I booted it up last night.
I'll rephrase it for you then. 'Sound's worked well for me from day one Do you have sound built into the motherboard, or a sound card Grape?'
It would be cool if someone could make a video like this: Start with a side view of a crouched Brenodi player shooting down a way, the camera moves in to close a up side view of his face, then slowly turning with his face to to the front view with a reflection of EMPIRES logo in his visor. then fades into the video now. Yeaaaa...thats the good stuff.
agree with loud comments... i had my headphones up loud the 1st time because i was watching a movie and WHAAAAMMMM! empires... i do think my heart skipped a beat or 2
Is file size going to be an issue for people? I can't seem to change the bitrate of the Cinepak codec (which is the format startup videos need to be in). As a result, I either make it 640x480, and it looks horrible, or 1024x768, and it's 15mb. It doesn't take any longer to load, it would just make the installer bigger. Here's the big version anyway. The music is gone, so it's just the explosion sound now. Volume is reduced, and the logo stays on screen for a little longer. Downloadez, away! P.S. Let me know if there's any problems downloading, I've just moved to this site for file hosting, and I don't know how good they are.
I reworked it a little, made it more dramatic and punchy. Again, I can't seem to encode it right so it's 15mb. Worth every bit though in my opinion. Unleash the monster!
wow! that video almost blew away my boxes :/ anyway it looks cool but some nice ingame footage would be great to add
