I know that everyone likes a good bit of storyline, but is there anyone opposed to replacing and updating the loading screen pages with some important points for new players? Because: 1. No one reads the manual 2. A lot of new players don’t know how to do basic tasks/basic tactics 3. # 1 and #2 can be solved by including important bits of information on the map loading screen, as everyone is going to see this. I think there are currently 15 to 20 "pages", so assuming that nothing will change with regards to size or number*, what are the 10 most important things a new player should know, then duplicate the top few so they show up a bit more often. Basic points to cover How to spawn, and how to fix the spawn bug How to join squads/how to use squad powers How to pick skills, both regular and class How to drop an ammo box/turret, possibly how to upgrade turrets Starting class suggestion, class rolls, first skill advice Tickets/resources/wages/vehicle count/vf status bar Don’t steal the boomtank How to build a vehicle "Advanced" points to cover Don’t build all the walls up, they give cover Revive? How to upgrade turrets? Thoughts/feedback? *For someone who knows the code: How possible will it be to make two slight changes to the current loading screen: #1. Can the size of the loading page be increased with a minimal amount of work #2. Is it possible to add a "join the game" button that will load the game but not join the game so you can finish reading the page. Can these changes be made with a minimal amount of work/new code?
so staged screens with manual excerpts and stuff from the protip section? good idea - imo thatd actually be way better then map-specific load screens. if i think about beerdudes graphical quickstart guide for example. something along this style should help players a lot and wouldnt be annoying since you have to wait anyway. just throw them in a folder and load it randomly - maybe keep track of which you showed already and show them equally often as bonus.
We were working on these ages ago, but atm I think we're just going to add new map screens. Not entirely sure though. Imo, we need more screens of things people have done in GMOD so we can use it as a backdrop to tips like this.
If someone told us how to get empires models into GMOD then we could quickly shit out a bunch of epic poses and scenes.
