Im running empires on OSX with a wineskin of the stem client. I was playing 15 v 15 on EMP_slaughter and we both had heavy tanks and nukes. The game kept freezing with no error messages, and the client would eventually crash to desktop. My graphics settings are mostly low. Do any mac users know what to do?
Could be over heating your graphics card open your tower and have a fan blow on it. Nukes really shouldn't be causing issues any more. I toned them down a fucktooooon. What graphics card are you using? Particles have been known to cause extreme lag but i've never heard of someones client actually crashing.
Im running a macbook pro and the gpu is a built in intel HD 3000. I'll try disabling the particle effects and see if that helps I was unable to use wine to install that program you recommended. My version of empires seems to have a different directory structure and I can't find a particles file/folder at all.
Particle effects are multithreaded by default and Wine might lock up in these sections (worker threads wait for work using locks). How did you install Empires? I might be able to check things out myself.
I downoaded a wineskin containing the windows version of steam, then installed empires inside the wrapper using the steam client. Could also be an audio problem but I'm not sure. Also, I'm pretty sure nuke arent the problem because mines can freeze up the client too.
You don't know what you're talking about, don't say anything. Venom I couldn't spawn after I launched Empires through Wine. I'll have to figure out a way to debug it, I can't just recompile with mingw and use DWARF2. You also need to find a person that'll do it because to be honest I'm doing other stuff.
Beerdude is working on UI, jephir and razorbud on fixes, Brutos has exams and I'm testing something out that doesn't even use Source.
How is the unity thing going ? I played around with it a little and........wow that thing is amazing.
you are trolling, are you? That Unity3D thing is made by TheLiberalElitist and DonMegel, afaik not by the actual dev-team.
Unity is crippled as hell. I'm not making games for Iphone/Android to see any benefits from it. UDK is the real engine that most people want to use. I on the other hand am writing stuff myself. LiberalElitist was playing with Unity, I have no idea if he got anywhere.
Sorry I assumed with a big project like converting empires to a new engine that you would have been involved. Seems like anytime that someone has a huge problem everyone tells people to ask you. UDK does seem easier to work with I just hate the feel of them games. Unity has some pretty need scenery and lighting possibilities.
