Look what I stumbled upon: http://sledge-editor.com/ Any of you mapheads know about it / using it already? Thoughts? I never really could wrap my head around Hammer tight enough to make more than a couple of test maps, so anything making it easier to work with has my immediate interest. But it seems to be almost 1:1 with some new features like extra customizability and multi-monitor support.
I used it, it brings nothing new to the table for empires afaik. its mainly handy if you want to make maps for goldsource games etc.
When I first saw it I was impressed by the ambition of the person making it, but in it's current state it's not really an upgrade. If you're not familiar enough with the BSP system, no alternate editors are gonna make it easier.
you mean that lightning-preview 3d-view view-mode? that never really worked. (also sry for the many views idk how to word it better)
Yes, it did work. I used it about 9 years ago. Funny enough at the time it didn;t work for Silk. We tried everything to get it to work, but nothing helped.
it was "working", it was just so far from what it looks compiled that it wasnt. its quite useless, the below is an outdoor map. the red is from red lights inside this bunker and theyre quite dim. the white light is from this lights in the background. the light_enviroment light is missing completely.
By load the game I assume you mean load the map? Cuz for mapping you should have Empires running, compile map, load it up in console with map mapname, and then hit disconnect when done checking stuff. Repeat until happiness. But yeah, lighting in hammer is a pain.
