The first rts games ever in sequential order were: Dune 2 Warcraft CnC:TD Warcraft 2 RA1 TA At least that's from memory. There might be a couple I missed.
And dune 2 was released three years before CnC 1. It also drew on still older mechanics from games that had RTS-style elements. TA was released two years after CnC 1. TA was five years more advanced than CnC 1 which was almost a carbon copy of dune 2. CnC is an antiquated idea, it is probably one of the oldest RTS systems still in operation and it is painfuly obvious.
I think it still stands up quite well, with interesting (if imbalanced) mechanics, and infinite unit selection. That list I posted is literally the FIRST RTSes to EXIST in the order they were created. Considering it was the third rts ever, I think it stands up damn well.
It is an important note in the history of game design, but that doesn't mean it's any good by modern standards.
Found this on PCG http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/12/13/command-conquer-generals-2-will-set-a-new-bar-for-fidelity-in-the-strategy-genre/
well, ... ... good night empires? :\ it seems this basically is a bf3 "mod" - ironic, if you consider that empires was a bf42 mod ... from: http://www.commandandconquer.com/portal/site/generals/ the actually site of the game: http://www.commandandconquer.com/en/games/bygameid/cncgenerals2
All i ask for is removal of the retarded infantry instagib thing. It annoys me that its only use was to camp buildings early game until one hit killers came to the battlefield. the only unit that couldn't really get ran over was the terrorist, and even with perfect micro and positioning, the only thing that tanker had to do was either to just stop and shoot them to death or, in case of the dragon, use its ability and kill couple k worth of units with no effort.
I also hated the nerf on the Stinger Sites, all you needed to destroy a 900$ defensive placement was one flashbang.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO F2P NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/08/15/c...quer-generals-2-drops-its-name-and-price-tag/
I accepted the shit they did to Red Alert 3, but now that EA has stepped in to free to play territory, fuck you.
Jesus f Chris? F2P? are you kidding me? Why do 70% of games that come out now must have this shitty fucking gimmics? Preorder or die, pay to win, half of the content released after the launch. If CoH wil have dlc units i am going to flip out. What troubles me is that DoW2 had dl. Those were fortunatelly reskins only. Quo vadis gaming?
Ehh, the CoD1 DLC units weren't much of an issue I don't think, I don't recall them adding anything better with the expansions. Several of them were reskins and stuff like replacing the koenigstiger with the jagdtiger is neither here nor there given that you can't build a strategy around either. Most of them were basically reskin anyway, like the greyhound replacement, which was basically a slightly more expensive, slightly tougher greyhound without an M2 or mine drop.
Yup. C&C: Renegade was in my vision the final piece of the puzzle of perfection. Everything else after that is just EA trying to make money off of the franchise
I put so many hours into Renegade. Especially on the Kamuix server when you could build extra defenses and buy loadouts with your credits. Twas very fun.
