There were a few less than awesome players but it was the minority. Didn't really affect the game which was already fail. Atleast they played. I would definitely turn off Spectate.
the first three rounds there was no problem, it was when we went to forest and slaughtered, and maybe everyone was just tired. Spec chat was pretty interesting too, at least the slaughtered bit. oh and now we have another pug group, geez, reminds me strongly of http://xkcd.com/927/.
Like I said, this has been tried so many times before. It's not working, there are atleast three groups for pugs that I can think of. Trickster has a big friend list for a reason: it's to be able to spam everyone personally to make sure they join(among other things). Whether it's a pug or a scrim or any organised event. Sure you can schedule stuff there too but at the end of the day, you still need to do it personally to succeed. Locking spec won't change much, if people truly want to spec that much they will just stay unassigned which let's you do everything a spec can save for seeing everything on the minimap. Auto assign only is a nice thought but like I told you, easy to bypass if people want to stack that much. Perhaps a type of plugin that automatically makes you join a team as soon as you connect could work but then again it's not fun if you can't play with your friends. As for the speccing and stacking, it's simply disrespectful. I understand that you can't have a 100% balanced game but we had loads of people from both epic and G, it would've been easy to split up, have one epic and g squad on both teams, instead, we got most of them in one team with the other team being full of pubbers and rusty jipples, no matter how good pubbers can become, they are still pubbers. Clan players will outclass them. As for the spectator bullshit, that is completely unacceptable. Having one or two or even three specs is okay, I'm okay with that but ruining the pug by going spec, no matter how interesting it is, is disrespectful. You not only disrespect me, the guy who took some time to organise it but the players who bothered showing up, who genuinely wanted to have some good games without bullshit. Of course the empires community was never known for respect, I don't really care if they don't give respect but I thought having fun is something that everyone wanted. You know, rounds that make your heart race, rounds in which you can never tell who is winning or losing, were you can't ever write off a team as dead because you just might get ninjaed or rushed. The pugs are just about that, they are suppose to consist of those games that are so rare in normal pubs, yes those games, that are the very reason why so many people stuck with empires for so many years. Obviously I made some mistakes too, like changing nextmap to forest from escort but really, escort would've become a 20 minute long shitfest that would've killed the pug and forest is a very good costum map. Starting with eastborough was a bad idea too(sorry lamer, but that's how it is.) it ended a few minutes too soon so we had to go to district before changing to a normal map. People obviously didn't like that. All in all, I'm a bit disappointed and I don't even know why I wasted my time even more by writing this.
yeah it was. i remembered i reduced the tickets so much because people complain about the map being long i got kinda sick during the pug so i barely played. sorry
This is why I usually start bitching when eth0 joins. I wasn't even there and I'd put money on it being him. Because that happens. Just fucking ban him from pugs, seriously. I cannot believe that shit would go on in a pug, and that people would do that. Fact is, if pugs are every 3 weeks or so, you can spend the other ones camping in spec on a pub server. Hell, people can use my TS3 every night to do that if they want. But not in a pug. A pug is for playing, not chatting. What went on there is really poor. This is how people are repaying the time and effort someone puts in to try and create some enjoyable games.
There were a lot of nicks last night that I haven't seen in game for a long while, no surprise they wanted to have a bit of a chat imo. It did get a bit silly though. Anyways, thanks for making it happen Predator.
yes thx predator. i had to leave, and tbh i wasnt sad, after duststorm - actually i should have left during duststorm, but one doesnt leave midgame. but maybe im too old fashioned when it comes to fairness and i should have left when we lost the first rax.
Well you just need a dick admin that actually kicks and bans people from pugs cause right now noone does that. It's just flaming that one guy and hoping he leaves.
I've been guilty of being too lenient on bad players in past pugs, but generally, assholes/people I don't like I just tend to kick/ban. Usually this is just BitterJesus though.
i figured out whats wrong with empires, people ignore the minimap. some intentionally bc they are too pro to killspawn, others bc they simply dont grasp whats happening on a big scale. and whats even worse is that if they killspawn bc someone already yells for help ALL do it. i facepalmed hard during mvalley. maybe a few tips for comms in the future (one should think this is know anyway given that most of the guys on pugs play for a few years already). make it clear in advance who will be helping out where if shit goes wrong - those guys then also should press their kill buttons without a 2nd thought. also dont just rely on strategies that say squad a goes there squad b goes there, this only works for like 5minutes into the game - and even 5minutes are exaggerated. better hand out rolls. assign 2 people that harrass their comm, tell what global strategy (in pugs most players know them anyway, f.e you dont have to describe "take north", "go over dam" or "go to their main via center" on mvalley to regulars) and have a few players which know about their roll as backup. also one guy that stays around main and builds can be very handy to counter ninjas - this one also can grab a jeep later on and go around build and maintain safe refs and shit. in short, assigning alpha to position x, bravo position y and charlie position z is too static for such dynamic game as empires - this wont win you anything. its a mixture of constantly pushing a certain location hard and trying to drain players by harrassment. often suicide running an apc behind the enemy, even without weapons and anyone in it, can confuse the enemy enough to give your team a chance to push up. organisation in the first few minutes is quite ok in empires anyway. as long as there are about 15 players on a team, you dont really have to account for that. what you really need is the plan for later on. its more important to know whats happening when shit goes wrong rather then when stuff works out anyway. what happens when a vehicle gets behind your lines? how to prevent a single jeep from draining 5 heavies from the frontlines? how to not have 10 guys killspawn back to main bc there is one scout? and so on ... (you might have realized, again i exaggerated a bit)
I joined the pug, played a fun round, finished way too fast though. Throughout that round, I saw a least 7+ people in spec, including eth0. Seriously. Stop this shit. Also, can I have an invite to the pug group?
if thats the only way to get into pugs now, please add me too -> http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197999111110/ or i guess its flasche235 as steamname
Darn it and I was really hoping to be able to play in the pug... to bad things had to come up. Well I guess it wasn't something too spectacular since most people just complain in this thread lol. But yes just disable specs and it should be fine, idk about that steam group idea though man, the password would actually have to be DIFFERENT than before and also more strict management, just saying.
Is there a possibility to only have voice chat enable in nf and be? basicly restricitng specs/unassigned to talk
Specs can be muted (but every time they rejoin we'd have to mute again), but Unassigned is out of our reach. Basically, all we can really do is !mute @spec.
