Here's a more official thread for the upcoming release: Smashball, the futuristic sports mod for Half-Life 2, is getting the Steamworks treatment and will be available on Steam June 11! Included in the new release: * 2 New Maps: Smashdome and Factory * Three new player models - each position now has their own player model * All new weapon models - no more placeholder art * Tweaks to almost all weapons * Fully functional league play * Goalie bots for when no one wants to be a goalie What's Smashball? Smashball was released as a mod for Half-Life 2 in Dec '08 and is a mix of hockey, soccer, and deathmatch. Two teams face off and try to outscore the other by putting the game ball in the other team's goal. Players score 3 points by shooting the ball in the enemy goal and 7 points by physically running the ball into the goal. Every player has a grappling hook used to swing around the arena and pick up incredible speed. There are 4 classes or positions to choose from ranging from the fastest and weakest to the slowest and strongest (forward, halfback, fullback, and goalie). Each position gets weapons they use to knock out enemy players and cause them to lose the ball. Players can be knocked out when their health is low for 5-7 seconds. If they're knocked out too many times, they can be killed and will sit out until the round ends or a team scores. Read the player guide for more info. Videos: Smashdome Factory Smashball TV Youtube Channel I'm hoping everyone who tried out the first release will give Smashball another go. This version is night and day compared to the last, and the league play is going to be functional for everyone who wants to participate in organized tournaments. Weapons have been improved. The forward's goo gun now shoots blobs that stick to players and slow them down. The halfback's rocket rifle now homes in on those pesky airborne forwards. The fullback's lightning rifle shoots faster. Spidermines are not only cute but chase after players much more effectively.
I don't know Krenzo, I was never really a fan of ball-based games, but because you started this great game I'll give it a go (This is why I'm a Fencer).
Just wondering, did you ever play speedball 2, the old dos game? Not that it's similar in any way, just been bothering me :p
It was supposed to, but there was a bug in Valve's in-game server browser that they didn't fix until yesterday.
For next release, have some European servers up? My ping was about 150+ all the time. Other than that, fullback + shift is pure love.
Play the game? He's a big defensive guy (I just use him for offense), that charges down on the enemy.
